中国英语界流行按字面解释 A is three times longer than B 的意思：A 比 B 长3倍；或者：A 是 B 的4倍长。

大熊猫的平均寿命是15年，狼的平均寿命是10年，亚洲狮的平均寿命是30年，巨龟的平均寿命是190年。问：亚洲狮的平均寿命比大熊猫大几倍？（注解：英语里这个问句=亚洲狮的平均寿命是大熊猫的几倍？在我们中国人看来这显然错误，但是英国人和美国人就是这样思维的。）

30:15=2:1

190:10=19:1 

The ratio 2 to 1 means that the Asiatic lion has a lifespan that is 2 times longer than that of the giant panda.

2 比 1 意味着亚洲狮的寿命是大熊猫的2倍（从英语字面上看是“比大熊猫长2倍）。

 The ratio 19 to 1 means that the giant tortoise has a lifespan that is 19 times longer than that of the wolf.

19比1意味着巨龟的寿命是狼的19倍（从英语字面上看是“ 比狼长19倍”）。

 也就是说：A is 2 times longer than B = A is two times as long as B

           A is 19 times longer than B = A is 19 times as long as B
