两小儿辩日
六年级下册英语第一单元教学形容词比较级形式，恰逢语文老师在教授此经典篇章，忽又想起某年某名校的大学生英语常识考试，许多学生竟然不知孔子的英文如何读写。英语学习要与传统文化结合渗透，机不可失、时不我待，赶紧拿来主义搜集改编，应用于课堂学习，兴趣盎然！
When
Confucius was travelling in the eastern part of the country, he
came upon two children in a heated argument, so he asked them to
tell him what it was all about.
"I think,"said one
child,"that the sun is near to us at daybreak and far away from us
at noon. "
(
"I
think,"said the other child,"that the sun is
farther
away from us at daybreak and nearer
to us
at noon. ")
The other contended that the
sun was far away at dawn and nearby at midday.
"When the sun first appears, said one child," it's as big as the
canopy of a carriage, but at noon it is only
(as
big as a plate)the
size of a plate or a bowl. Well, isn't it
true that (it)objects far away seem smaller while those nearby seem
bigger?
"When the
sun comes out,"pointed out the other , "it is very cool, but at
midday it is as hot as putting your hand in boiling water.Well,
isn't it true that what is nearer to us is hotter and what
is father off is cooler?'
Confucius
couldn't(was unable to) settle the matter for them
The two
children laughed at him," Who says you are a learned

孔子东游，见两小儿辩斗，问其故。
一儿曰：“我以日始出时去人近，而日中时远也。”
一儿以日初出远，而日中时近也。
一儿曰：“日初出大如车盖，及日中则如盘盂，此不为远者小而近者大乎？”
一儿曰：“日初出沧(cāng)沧凉凉，及其日中如探汤，此不为近者热而远者凉乎？”
孔子不能决也。
两小儿笑曰：“孰(shú)为汝(rǔ)多知(zhì)乎？”
译文
孔子到东方游学，看见两个孩子争辩不已，就问他们争辩的原因。
一个孩子说：“我认为太阳刚升起的时候距离人近，但是到正午的时候距离人远。”
另一个孩子认为太阳刚升起时距离人远，而到中午时距离人近。
第一个孩子说：“太阳刚刚升起的时候像车篷般大，到了正午看起来就像盘子一样，这不是远的东西看起来小而近的看起来大的道理吗？”
另一个孩子说：“太阳刚出来的时候感觉很清凉，到了中午就像把手伸进热水里一样热，这不是越近感觉越热而越远感觉越凉的道理吗？”
孔子也不能判断谁对谁错。
两个孩子笑着说：“谁说你见多识广呢？”
