Abel Tasman 塔斯曼
 
Abel Tasman was the first European to visit New Zealand.He was sent by the government of Holland to look for new countries for trade.He discovered Tasmania,then he sailed east across what is now called the Tasman Sea,and in December,1642 he saw South Island.Then he sailed north along the west coast of North Island,mapping the parts of the coast he passed.Tasman named the country Statenland,which was later changed to Nieuw Zeeland,the name of an area in Holland.
