In this section, you are asked
to write an essay based on the following diagram. Describe the
diagram and analyze the possible causes. You should write at least
150 words.
Given is a
diagram which clearly illustrates the striking change in the
recruitment of Master of Engineering (ME) in China from 1998 to
2004. During the first three years, the number ascended slightly
from approximately 2,500 to a little more than 5000. Since 2000,
the recruitment showed a remarkable surge, reaching its peak at
35,000 in 2004. It is noticeable that the number in 2004 is 14
times as much as that in 1998.
（Such a
scenario can be naturally associated with the speedy advance of
higher education in China, but）what led to/resulted in the sharp
rise above? To my understanding, at least two fundamental causes
can account for this phenomenon. For one thing, in recent years,
higher education in China was best characterized by its increase/
expansion in enrollment, which enabled more college graduates to
have opportunities to further their study. For another, compared
with other majors, Master of Engineering is much more practical and
helpful for job-hunting; therefore, a larger proportion of
individuals chose ME. Thus, the enrollment showed a trend of
considerable rise. (100 words)
To
conclude/Accordingly, it is advisable for universities in China to
focus more eyesight on the enrollment of ME. Meanwhile, it is
essential for them to work out comprehensive strategies to
strengthen the quality of education. If they try their utmost to do
so, the future of ME education will be hopeful and promising. (56

所给的图表清晰展示了从1998年到2004年中国工程管理硕士招生的显著变化。最初的三年，该人数小幅上涨，从大约2500增至略高于5000。从2000年开始，招生人数呈现出明显的大幅上涨，并且在2004年达到了3.5万的峰值。显然，2004年的人数是1998年人数的4倍。

总之/因此，中国大学应更多关注工程硕士的招生。同时，大学应制定出综合策略提升教育质量。如果他们努力这样做，工程硕士教育的未来将一片光明。
