(2007-01-11 10:29:23)
Cantus Troili-Geoffrey Chaucer

If Love lives not, O God, what feel I so?
And if Love lives, what thing and which is He?
If Love is good, from where has come my woe?
If it be bad, it's a wonder, thinks me,
since every torment and adversity
which comes from it savors of joys distinct
and still I thirst, the more of it I drink.
And if it's from my own desire I burn,
what spring gives forth my wailing and complaint?
If hurt pleases, why should my plaint return?
I know not, nor why, in health, I grow faint.
O live death! O strange hurt with Love's sweet taint,
how might you fester in such quantity
unless I give consent for it to be?
If I consent, I wrongfully devote
my heart to sorrow. Thus tossed, to and fro,
quite rudderless, I sit within a boat
in a sea which two winds must undergo;
each blasts against its contrary echo.
Alas! what strange malady have I got?
I die from heat when cold, from cold when hot.

好似生命之源,竟能引起我无限的快感;
Cantus Troili-Ernest H. Wilkins

``If no love is, O God, what fele I so?
And if love is, what thing and whiche is he?
If love be good, from whennes comth my wo?
If it be wikke, a wonder thinketh me,
When every torment and adversitee
That cometh of him, may to me savory thinke;
For ay thurst I, the more that I it drinke.
``And if that at myn owene lust I brenne,
Fro whennes cometh my wailing and my pleynte?
If harme agree me, wher-to pleyne I thenne?
I noot, ne why unwery that I faynte.
O quick deeth, o swete harm so queynte,
How may of thee in me swich quantitee,
But if that I consente that it be?
``And if that I consente, I wrongfully
Compleyne, y-wis; thus possed to and fro,
Al sterelees withinne a boot am I
Amid the see, bytwixen windes two,
That in contrarie stonden evermo.
Allas!what is this wonder maladye?
For hete of cold, for cold of hete, I dye."

Purity —Rabindranath Tagore(泰戈尔)

Life of my life, I shall ever try to keep my body pure, knowing
that thy living touch is upon all my limbs.
I shall ever try to keep all untruths out from my thoughts, knowing
that thou art that truth which has kindled the light of reason in my mind.
I shall ever try to drive all evils away from my heart and keep my
love in flower, knowing that thou hast thy seat in the inmost shrine of my heart.
And it shall be my endeavour to reveal thee in my actions, knowing it is thy power gives me strength to act.
