朱偁是“海派”画家代表人物之一，后学都很多，从19世纪中叶起，“海派”的影响几乎覆盖整个中国画领域，而“海派”早期几乎都以嘉兴画家为主，人数之多，影响之大，时称“鸳湖派”。其中任颐、虚谷，吴昌硕和蒲华并称“海派四杰”，为海派之翘楚；张熊和朱熊，任熊合称“沪上三熊”，是海派早期的代表，其地位崇高，形同创始人、朱偁为同光年间“海上十名家”之一，时与王礼同领海上花鸟画派主流。

朱偁

（1826—1900，一作1826—1899）清代画家，早岁名琛，后更今名，字梦庐，号觉未，浙江嘉兴人。事迹收录于《海上墨林》、《桐阴复志》、《近代六十名家画传》 。卒年七十五。

工花鸟，初法张熊，暇辄借临，熊自视几不能辨。后改师王礼，兼得张画之华瞻工细与王画之超脱飘逸，神似华喦，成为名家，在上海书画界享有盛誉，晚年精进。其兄熊，字梦泉，亦为知名画家。

海上画派

国画画派之一，又称“海派”，或“沪派”，一般指的是发生于十九世纪中叶（1843年），至廿世纪初期（1927年）时，一群画家活跃于上海地区，并从事绘画创作的结果与风尚。

明末清初，上海和广州等沿海城市开埠通商，吸引着各方画家云集。他们最先接受维新思想和外来文化，对传统中国画进行大胆的改革和创新，作品体现时代生活气息，融合外来艺术技法因素，在“正统派”外别树旗帜，形成“海上画派”和“岭南画派”。代表画家有“清末海派四杰”：虚谷、任伯年、吴昌硕和蒲华。
