这张专辑是钢琴大师霍洛维兹弹奏穆索斯基《图画展览会》、李斯特《B小调钢琴奏鸣曲》，在卡内基音乐厅的现场录音。
1986年，霍洛维兹将自己从未发行过的私人收藏：1945年至1950年间卡内基音乐厅的演奏会录音全部捐给耶鲁大学。这些珍贵而令人叫绝的录音捕捉了巅峰时期的霍洛维兹炫妙的琴技和独特的音乐风格。
