                                               Reading

                                           A letter home(教学设计)

教学目标设计:

1. Knowledge goals: 

(1). Enable the students to make clear the location of PNG. 

(2). Enable the students to identify the living conditions and teaching conditions of students in PNG.

(3). Enable the students to graph the important words and phrases in this

 reading passage.

2. Ability goals : 

(1). Students will further improve their ability to find out the key words or phrases of each paragraph, and also the main idea of the passage. 

(2). Students can improve their reading skills and will further improve their ability to generalize the detailed information from the text to answer questions.

3. Moral goals

(1). Students will have the awareness of the importance to be a volunteer. 

(2). Students will get a deeper understanding of contributions to society and develop the awareness of the importance of cooperation.

4. Learning methods

(1) Find answers to the questions in the limited time by reading silently or discussing with partners.

(2) Find keys words and information from the text.

5. Teaching aims: 

(1). To improve the ability of scanning a text for specific information.

(2). To comprehend the passage thoroughly and know about the PNG.

6. Teaching important points& difficult points

  Help the students learn to make notes while reading and listening to the material and talk about some items of the reading passage.

7. Teaching methods: 

Listening speaking and discussingtask-based teaching method

8. Teaching aids: 

Multi-media (video and audio); blackboard

教学过程设计:

步骤1StepLead-in创设情景 导入新课

Say hello to the students and talk about the pictures.

设计意图:通过简单的问候使学生快速融入轻松的学习氛围。观察课文配图并进行描述不仅让他们对当地人的生活有所了解,而且激发了学生参与学习过程的热情。

步骤2Step II Pre—reading 

1. Ask the students to think and guess who the photographer is. And search for more information about the writer Jo.

1). Who wrote this letter?

2). Who is she?

设计意图:抛出问题,让学生迅速获取文章的文体(letter)和作者(a young Australia woman, Jo)

2. Show the students two maps to help them have a better understanding of PNG.

设计意图:通过地图展示让学生进一步了解PNG这个国家人民的生活状况和居住条件。

步骤3Step III  While—reading 

I. Fast reading  略读文章 理解大意

Scan the letter and try to find the main idea of the letter.

Read the passage in 2 minutes, and try to find out what Jo talks about in the letter?

设计意图:培养学生的快速阅读能力,使学生能在有效时间内准确把握文章大意并进行概括。

II : Careful reading 仔细阅读 掌握要点

1.     Find out the key words or phrases of each paragraph.

There are 9 paragraphs in the letter. Each group looks through different paragraphs, and try to get the key words or sentences to introduce the main idea of each paragraph

设计意图:通过寻找每段的关键词概括段落大意,降低难度,提高学生的自我成就感。同时使学生从整体上把握文章,为下一步Further reading 做好准备。

2.     Let the students divide the letter into several parts according to the keys words or phrases of each paragraph. (Four parts)

设计意图:通过每段的关键词对文章进行划分,有助于学生对文章脉络的把握,理清思路。

Further reading深入理解 细节要知

Task1: Questions&Discussion

Read part 2 to learn more about the school life of the village in PNG.

1. Questions:

  1). Every morning who says hello to Jo?

  2). What happened in the science lesson?

  3). Why do you think the boys jumped out of the windows?

4). What will most boys do after year 8?

2. Discussion

Why do you think Jo just mentioned the boys?

设计意图:此处设计四个细节性问题并引入讨论使学生对当地的教育情况产生思考。

Task2: Talk about the items

Listen to part3 and get enough information, and then say something about the following items:

Their types of houses;Their diet and Cooking methods;Their possessions;

Their family relationships; Sleeping arrangements; Beliefs;

设计意图: 从听、读到说的环节训练学生的英语语言基本功。

Step IV: Comprehending & Discussion:

1.     Do you think it is easy for Jo to work as a volunteer there? Why

2. Would you like to be a volunteer? What kind of things can you do?

设计意图: 引导学生对志愿者工作进行思考,学习志愿者的伟大之处,培养学生的志愿者精神。

Step V: Summary and Consolidation 微视频

Let the students enjoy a video: Tomorrow will be better

设计意图: 培养学生对生活的热情和积极态度,做一个有爱心、有责任心的人,并让学生感受到一个充满爱的世界。

Step VI: Homework  

Writing

设计意图:通过对志愿者工作的了解和思考,并以写作的形式复习回顾本课内容,有助于培养学生对知识的运用能力。
