著名二胡演奏家陈军，在这张专辑里展现了前所未闻的超技演出，技巧的娴熟与出神入化的演出，直可称为"胡琴音乐中的帕格尼尼"，小提琴家西崎崇子更称赞他"技巧完美，极富音乐感，演出令人赞叹"。专辑中收录的"二泉映月"，"独影摇红"等等，都是二胡名曲，绝对值得一听。

陈军1997年7月间在北京中央电视台录音棚录制了这张专辑，收录了他的几首超级名曲。除首尾两首超技乐曲外，大部分是抒情优美的以及充满生活情趣的名曲，有二胡代表作《二泉映月》和《月夜》，此外还有《江河水》、《烛影摇红》、《椰岛风情》、《一枝花》、《山村小景》及《阳光照耀在塔什库尔干》等。合作演出的是国内高手组成的中央名家民族乐团。

录音中所使用的二胡是特制的，称为扁筒二胡，它是根据物体不规则震动的原理和琴弦（从千斤与琴马之间）十分之一的位置定为击弦点，这定位是有科学理论支持的。这种二胡演奏时音量相对大于一般产品，音质雄厚，穿透力强，音色甜美，高中低音区音色统一。对演奏家来说有很好的手感，奏泛音时比一般二胡明亮，演奏快速乐句时反应敏锐，奏抒情乐段时表现力丰富，这琴落在陈军手中犹如鱼儿得水。

这张专辑在北京录音，所采用的器材十分先进，包括B&K 4040，AKG C12VR，Neumann U87i以及Audio Technica AT 4033话筒，调音台是Euphonix CS 2000,数码录音机是Sonic Solution加SONY 7050,Tascam DA30, 数码转换器则是十分流行的Apogee AD1000，音响效果达到发烧级水平。
