在完成《Let It Be》之后，披头士乐队着手制作他们作为一个乐队、一个组合的最后一张专辑。这之后，乐队成员将各奔东西。四个人排成一列，横渡Abbey Road，他们的背后，是曾经朝夕相处多年的Abbey Road录音室。他们走得如此毅然，不带半分留恋。从照片上看，唯有Paul McCartney是光着脚走的，他的右手甚至还夹着烟卷。

披头士乐队解散了，在此之前为我们留下的是一张史诗般的杰作——《Abbey Road》。由于这张专辑是在伦敦的阿比大街(Abbey Road)录制的，所以披头士乐队将其命名为《Abbey Road》。

录制于披头士乐队最后日子的《阿比大街》是其成就的顶点，充分展示了乐队成员成熟的技艺。如同对他们多年共同合作的一个总结，该专辑包括了每一个成员的作品，各种不同的风格熔于一炉。其中摇滚乐有：The End，I Want You，Oh!Darling，Come Together，民谣类有Because，Something，而Sun King中的吉它片段，Carry That Weight、Golden Slumbers中的配乐，I Want You、Sun King、Maxwell's Silver Hammer中Sgt. Pepper式的倒带、各种奇奇怪怪的新乐器以及录音室噱头，都给人留下深刻印象。

所有乐队成员都有创作汇入该专辑，而每一个作品都是对他们各自独特秉赋的绝好印证。特别突出的是George的Something和Here Comes The Sun，这也许是有史以来最棒的两首歌了。Ringo的配乐技巧同样令人难以忘怀，Octopus's Garden显然有着该专辑中最诱人的旋律之一。

披头士乐队的解散代表着一个他们统治并参与创建的时代的结束，也许可以说以前或以后都不会有象他们这样的乐队了。对于无数的披头士迷来说，这解散的时刻自然令他们黯然神伤。而若干年后列农的遇刺，更使他们中的许多人痛心疾首、甚至号啕大哭。时至今日，当刺杀列农的凶手可能获释的消息传来，他们中还有人扬言：这小子如果今天出狱，他将见不到明天的太阳！

《Abbey Road》被广泛认为是披头士乐队最精致的专辑之一，虽然乐队当时已名存实亡。 虽然乐队内伴随着紧张情绪，但专辑还是受到广泛赞誉，被认为是史上最佳专辑之一。这张专辑在《滚石》杂志选出的500张历代最强专辑中排名第14位。 2009年《滚石》杂志读者也将此专辑选为披头士乐队最佳专辑。
