1991年，已经红遍两岸三地的女歌手叶倩文推出了国语专辑《潇洒走一回》，其中的《潇洒走一回》专辑同名主打曲，很快就因为半文半白歌词所呈现的一种朴素人生哲理，以及通俗流畅的旋律，成为传遍街头巷尾的流行金曲。而折射一种人生态度的歌名，更因为与当时经济大潮下的民众思维契合，逐渐变成了一句口头禅和流行语。
上世纪九十年代初，随着两岸三地一体化的流行音乐市场初步确立，赶上时代潮流的叶倩文，也因此成为这股一体化浪潮的幸运儿。在她所属的香港“华纳唱片”与台湾“飞碟唱片”结成战略伙伴关系后，叶倩文很快就因为台港两地精英人的双向介入，而使她的音乐事业迅速向香港以外更为宽阔的国语市场拓展。其中最具代表的，除了为张艺谋执导的《古今大战秦俑情》配唱主题曲《焚心以火》国语版之外，就是1991年流行的这首《潇洒走一回》。后者甚至在一定程度上，成为当时叶倩文的另一个代名词。
