这张专辑是1979年博斯科夫斯基最后一次指挥维也纳新年音乐会的现场录音，Decca公司留下了当年的珍贵录音，收录在“传奇”系列中，颇具历史纪念意义。
威利·博斯科夫斯基（Willi
Boskovsky，1909年6月16日-1991年4月21日），奥地利指挥家，曾任维也纳爱乐乐团首席小提琴，维也纳八重奏团成员。1954年克莱门斯·克劳斯逝世后，威利·博斯科夫斯基接过了维也纳新年音乐会的指挥棒，从1955年开始担任维也纳新年音乐会常任指挥直至1979年退休，共连续指挥了二十五次维也纳新年音乐会，并因此名满天下——其指挥的施特劳斯家族作品亦被公认为经典版本。
博斯科夫斯基特别会把握施特劳斯作品的独特三拍子节奏，因此乐评家认为他的演奏才代表了真正的维也纳风格。
