这张专辑收录了巴赫家族成员创作的5部管弦乐作品，包括J.S.巴赫的管弦乐组曲、小提琴奏鸣曲、J.C.巴赫的四重奏、W.F.巴赫的中提琴二重奏、C.P.E.巴赫的大键琴协奏曲。

“巴赫家族”是指从十六世纪中叶开始，一直延续到十九世纪末，三百多年中共出现了五十二位音乐家的德国著名音乐世家。其中最有名的是约翰·塞巴斯蒂安·巴赫（J.S.Bach），伟大的“西方音乐之父”。

J.S.巴赫的长子威廉·弗里德曼·巴赫（W.F.Bach）的作品体现了巴洛克风格向古典主义风格过渡的特征，其键盘乐作品技巧高超，善于使用对位手法，受其父影响较大。他特别擅长即兴演奏管风琴，可惜由于懒于记录，其作品传世较少。

J.S.巴赫的次子卡尔·菲利普·埃马努埃尔·巴赫（C.P.E.Bach）是最有名的，他是近代奏鸣曲式创始人，他的交响曲曾得到W.A.莫扎特与J.海顿的赞赏。在他的作品中，既有巴罗克音乐末期与古典主义音乐初期的混合风格，而又有刻意模仿海顿、曲意迎合大帝所喜欢的华丽堂皇的风格。他的晚期作品大胆引进了大量半音阶模进乐句，开拓了浪漫派风格的先河。

第11个儿子约翰·克里斯蒂安·巴赫（J.C.Bach）长期居住于伦敦，被称为“伦敦巴赫”。他除13部歌剧外还作有许多器乐曲：古序曲、序曲、近40首钢琴协奏曲、奏鸣曲、四重奏、三重奏、进行曲等。它们的巧妙的配器和动人的旋律说明莫扎特为何深深敬仰J.C.巴赫，也说明不仅莫扎特，海顿和贝多芬也从他的作品中得益非浅。

巴赫家族成员在音乐史上都很有地位，对海顿、贝多芬等都有直接的影响。
