今天来跟大家讲讲童话故事，相比起之前的书，童话故事很简短，几天就能看完，也方便我们学习。

这些故事相信大家都很熟悉了，但是讲英文的时候大家可能有点蒙，我就有个学生练口语的时候说白马王子，就说成White horse prince，英文里这么讲人家可听不懂哦。

再如今天讲的灰姑娘，她的英文名叫Cinderella哦，她原来的名字叫Ella，就是因为身上经常脏脏的布满了灰，所以两个姐姐才给她取名Cinder+ella。

英语棒棒的大家，下回可以尝试开始读英文故事，拾起童年的回忆。

There was once a rich man whose¹ wife lay sick, and when she felt her end drawing near² she called to her only daughter to come near her bed, and said, "Dear child, be pious and good, and God will always take care of you, and I will look down upon you from heaven, and will be with you." And then she closed her eyes and expired³.

从前，有一个富人的妻子得了重病，在临终前，她把自己的独生女儿叫到身边说："乖女儿，你要虔诚善良，上帝会照看你，我无论在哪儿也都会继续守护你的，我会一直在你身边的。"说完便永远地闭上了眼睛。

 知识点：

1. 这句话是whose引导的定语从句

这句话里whose表示的就是the rich man’s，善用whose引导的定语从句可以让我们的表述立马看起来不一样。

来看下这句话。There is a girl. Her hair is black. She is waiting for someone.

这个三个小短句看起来非常啰嗦，我们用whose可以让这句话看起来更简练：

The girl, whose hair is black, is waiting for someone.

这句话不仅言简意赅，也使我们的表达看起来更地道，如果说第一句话像小学生说的话，那第二句至少看起来是初中生会说的话了。

基础稍弱的同学可能还是看不懂，毕竟定语从句学起来也不是那么容易，后期我会专门开课讲，大家可以先了解一下。

2. felt her end drawing near：

这里的意思就是感觉自己命不久矣，大家可以把这个词组记到笔记本山背下来

3. expire：死亡

看到这个词大家第一反应就是“过期”，它还有一个意思就是死亡。大家自己写的时候大部分人应该是只会用death表示，这里有多了个表达。

The maiden went every day to her mother's grave and wept, and was always pious and good. When the winter came the snow covered⁴ the grave with a white covering, and when the sun came in the early spring and melted it away⁵, the man took to himself another wife.

小姑娘虔诚而又善良，她每天都到她母亲的坟前去哭泣。冬天来了，大雪为她母亲的坟盖上了白色的毛毯。 春风吹来，太阳又卸去了坟上的银装素裹。冬去春来，人过境迁，他爸爸又娶了另外一个妻子。

4. Cover:覆盖

这个单词大家都认识，除了表示覆盖在什么东西上面，也可以用来表示占地多少面积,譬如cover the area of 100 square meters，占地100平方米。

5. Melted away：融化，消失

例：So much snow has already melted away

大片雪都慢慢融化了。

The new wife brought two daughters home with her, and they were beautiful and fair in appearance, but at heart were, black and ugly. And then began very evil times for the poor step-daughter. There she was obliged to⁶ do heavy work⁷ from morning to night, get up early in the morning, draw water, make the fires, cook, and wash. Besides that, the sisters did their utmost to torment her, mocking her, and strewing peas and lentils among the ashes, and setting her to pick them up. In the evenings, when she was quite tired out⁸ with her hard day's work, she had no bed to lie on⁹, but was obliged to rest on the hearth among the cinders. And as she always looked dusty and dirty, they named her Cinderella.

她被迫去干艰苦的活儿。每天天不亮就起来担水、生火、做饭、洗衣，而且还要忍受她们姐妹对她的漠视和折磨。到了晚上，她累得筋疲力尽时，连睡觉的床铺也没有，不得不睡在炉灶旁边的灰烬中，这样一来她身上都沾满了灰烬，又脏，又难看，出于这个原因她们就叫她灰姑娘。

6. Obliged to:不得不做……

例：He did not feel obliged to conform to the rules that applied to ordinary men

他觉得自己不必遵守那些适用于普通人的规定。

7. Heavy work：重活；繁重的工作

8. Tired out:精疲力尽；疲惫

9. she had no bed to lie on：

这个句型我们可以活学活用，模仿这个句型，我们表示没钱可以说have no money to spend

It happened one day that the father went to the fair, and he asked his two step-daughters what he should bring back for them. "Fine clothes¹⁰!" said one. "Pearls and jewels!" said the other. "But what will you have, Cinderella?" said he. "The first twig, father, that strikes against your hat on the way home; that is what I should like you to bring me." So he bought for the two step-daughters fine clothes, pearls, and jewels, and on his way back, as he rode through a green lane, a hazel-twig struck against his hat; and he broke it off and carried it home with him.

有一次，父亲要到集市去，他问两个继女，要他给她们带什么回来。第一个说："我要漂亮的衣裳。"第二个叫道："我要珍珠和钻石。"他又对自己的女儿说："孩子，你想要什么？"灰姑娘说："亲爱的爸爸，就把你回家路上碰着你帽子的第一根树枝折给我吧。"父亲回来时，他为前两个女儿带回了她们想要的漂亮衣服和珍珠钻石。在路上，他穿过一片浓密的矮树林时，有一根榛树枝条碰着了他，几乎把他的帽子都要扫下来了，所以他把这根树枝折下来带上了。

10. Fine clothes:漂亮的衣服；华丽的服饰

And when he reached home he gave to the step-daughters what they had wished for, and to Cinderella he gave the hazel-twig. She thanked him, and went to her mother's grave, and planted this twig there, weeping so bitterly that the tears fell upon it and watered it, and it flourished and became a fine tree. Cinderella went to see it three times a day, and wept and prayed, and each time a white bird rose up from the tree, and if she uttered any wish the bird brought her whatever she had wished for.

回到家里时，他满足了两个继女的要求，也树枝给了他女儿。灰姑娘谢过父亲，拿着树枝来到母亲的坟前，将它栽到了坟边。她每次在母亲坟前伤心地哭泣时，泪水就会不断地滴落在树枝上，浇灌着它，使树枝很快长成了一棵漂亮的大树。灰姑娘每天都会去三次，去哭泣，去祈祷。不久，有一只小鸟来树上筑巢，她与小鸟交谈起来。后来她想要什么，小鸟都会给她带来。
