Summer Associate Consultant Intern -Hong Kong
office
之前準備時在Yingjiesheng
(感激朋友的介紹)看了很多面經,非常感謝各位大牛的付出,所以希望回饋一下這個地方
!
小弟中文比較差,還望大家見諒!
Major
steps in the recruitment
process:
1.
CV screen
-Mention
leadership traits and internship
experience
-my
intern experience is mostly in the financial industry , eg banking
and capital markets
2.
Written Test
-CV
過到後, 就會收到Written test invitation in
regional office. Its basically equivalent to Mckinsey's PST, theres
no way you can find Bain's past tests online , so i recommend
practicing Mck's tests. 因為人太懶的關係我只是練了
3個 online mock PST ,真正
Bain written test的時候差點做不完...
3.
Group Interview
-
面試官是三個AC,每人自我介紹後就開始講辯題
-
~10 candidates divided into 2 groups to debate on a random topic
which is impossible to prepare . 10 mins prep and then 15 mins
debate , 2min per candidate ending
speech.
4.
1st Round case interview
-
2 middle-level consultants , 1 on 1 case interviews , 30 mins each
, conducted consecutively.

1st case : video interview with a consultant based in the Beijing
office, 面試case
的部分以普通話進行(
可能他見我是香港人 ,
所以想考考我的普通話吧哈哈)我的普通話真的挺差,所以面試的過程不太通順,中英夾雜,他有時說得快的時候我有點聽不明白,只好硬著頭皮盡量抄底重點

case is about a global logistic company's performance enhancement
in the China Market . 問答來來回回20分鐘,最後他問我有什麼suggestion,其實我真的不肯定,然後就說去acquire
內地的middle market
players 吧,合併派貨流程(cost synergies) 和有更好的market penetration and client
network.
fit方面他問了我幾次為什麼想做consulting,given
that I have a much longer history in the financial industry.
然後問了我Mck vs Bain
怎麼選擇,banking vs
consulting 怎麼選擇等等.. 還真的挺pushy..

case : 香港人senior
associate consultant (SAC) , 是港大的師兄, 問了一個based on his own client
experience 的case ,主要是關於cost reduction, 要看一些圖表,market
research等等,然後發現客戶面對low margin compared to competitors 的問題。 從cost 方面入手問問題,最後發現原來是store waxing
的cost
太過高。
case方面其實並不難,和大家在online
casebook 看到的都差不多(我在online casebook 大概只做/看了10個case),難度就在於interview
的時候,要在consultant
面前快速理解graphs and data ,
set up a suitable framework. 幸好他人真的很nice 很helpful ,所以整個面試就像對話一樣,氣氛很好。
fit
interview 也佔了差不多15分鐘,他們真的很想知道你到底為什麼想做consulting/Bain,是有什麼人生理想和目標,還是只是為了MBB
的光環和工資。他也很語重心長的跟我說做consulting 其實絕不輕鬆,一個星期總有幾天要travel
,工時也挺長壓力很大。you have to
know what you are signing up
for.
看來consulting的lifestyle也不比
investment banking 好多少 LOL
面完幾個鐘後,香港的SAC
就打來 congrats
call,很nice的跟我說了我這一輪的表現,強項和弱項,也提醒我在下一輪有什麼需要提升的地方 eg, conclusion making , presentation skills
等等, 祝我好運。
5.Final
round ( 1st
round 兩天後)
-Written
case with two Beijing Partners(
video conference)
-
M&A case + follow-up growth strategies. ( luxury clothing
retailer in China , considering to acquire a online player and hope
to become a online mkt leader by
2017)
-
一小時看二十多版的info
slides( 包括market
research, charts, industry experts' opinions, financial forecast,
market share forecast.....) , 還要填3張presentation slides
,非常匆忙。一小時完全不夠用!

然後跟北京的兩個 partners
present,15mins
present + 15mins Q&A ,每人問了兩條follow up questions
女partner(
很質疑的語氣):so you said you
are confident that we can reach the target market share with your
recommended growth strategies, why are you so confident
?Give me some solid
evidence .
我:please
allow me to refer to the relevant info..(手忙腳亂在找相關的data
slide...),
according to market research , with this strategy , we can raise
the price per purchase by 10% , current projected revenue in 2017
is $X billion, so 10% uplift of that would give us an additional $X
billion revenue , with the margin of X%, we can have an additional
profit of $X billion. Even if the actual result doesnt live up to
the full estimated potential, it should still be more than enough
to cover the current gap of $0.5b between the targeted and
projected revenue amount in 2017.
女partner(
點了點頭,但有點不可置否的感覺):So
tell me more about the potential Risk that we may face
.
我就說了幾個常見的M&A
會出現的risk
.
然後到男partner:
Q1
so why did you choose these two growth stratagies (among the 4
possible options ) ?
A
: (talked about the respective pros and cons of the different
choices and the rationale behind the choice. )
Q2
So you talked about 3 immediate things to do after the acquisition
, if you have to choose one to do first , which one would you
choose and why ?
A
: (briefly explained why it is the most important and that it can
bring immediate cost saving effect , cus Bain always tries look for
immediate result for the clients . )
然後竟然沒有fit
questions,匆忙說了再見就完了。當時覺得他們不太滿意我的表現,可能當partner 真的很忙吧哈哈。

就打來說 congrats , welcome
to Bain .
overall:整個面試過程大約兩三個禮拜左右,Bain
的 HR 真的很efficient很supportive,consultants/ manager
也挺nice
,office
給人一個很friendly的感覺
