One day after school, Bill walked past the shop on the street corner as usual. He stopped to look at the front row of shoes, and he felt sorry for himself. 

 He really wanted to have new pair for his birthday. He sadly walked away and 

thought of how to tell his mother.  He knew she would give him anything if she could. But he also knew she had little money. He decided not to go home at once, because he looked worried and he didn't want his mother to worry about him. So he went to the park and sat on the grass. Then he saw a girl in a wheelchair. He found that the girl moved the wheels with her hands. Bill looked at her carefully and was surprised to see that the girl had no feet.

    He looked down at his own feet. “It was much better to be without shoes than without feet,” he thought. It was not right for him to feel so sorry and sad. He went away and smiled, thinking he was luckier in life.

  Mr. Lee was in bed and was trying to go to sleep when he heard the bell ring. He turned on the light and looked at his clock. It was twelve o'clock. "Who can it be at this time of night?" He thought. He decided to go and find out. So he got of bed, put on his dressing gown (浴袍) and went to the door. When he opened the door, there was nobody there. "That is very strange." Then he went back to his bedroom, took off his dressing gown, got back into bed ,turned off the light and tried to go to sleep.
  A few minutes later he heard the bell again. Mr. Lee jumped out of bed very quickly and rushed to the door. He opened it, but again he found no one there. He closed the door and tried not to feel angry. Then he saw a piece of paper on the floor. He picked it up. There were some words on it : "It is now after midnight(午夜), so it is April Fool's Day (禺人节) . April fool to you!"
  "Oh , it was the English boy next door!" Mr. Lee exclaimed (惊叫) and almost smiled. He went back to bed and feel asleep at once. The bell did not ring again.

A man went into a restaurant and sat down at a table. He ordered the most expensive dishes. The waiter served the meal. He ate it with great joy. Then a small boy came in and sat at his table.

  The waiter came up and said to the man, “What would your little boy like, sir?”

   “Oh, just an ice cream,” the man told him. Then he stood up and said to the waiter, “I'm just going out to buy a newspaper.”

   He left the restaurant. The waiter gave the boy an ice cream. The boy took it and then stood up and walked to the door. The waiter ran towards him.

   The waiter was puzzled. “What do you mean?” he asked.

   “The man came up to me in the street ,” the boy said, “He asked me if I liked an ice cream. I told him I did. Then he told me to come into the restaurant at 2 o'clock and sat down at his table. He said he'd give me one.”
