Unit 1  Whats the matter?

Section B  (2b-2e)

Ⅰ.Analysis of the Teaching Material.

The teaching material is from the textbook in Grade 8,Unit1 What is the matter (section B Reading).The students in Grade have already learned health problems and first aid in previous periods, the selected content is a reading passage.Its a true story about an American mountain climber--Aron Ralston. It provides us with a picture of mountain climbing. Students could train and acquire the reading skills in the real context gradually.Whats more,it can not only enhance their language learning, but can also lay stress on their reading ability improvement.

Ⅱ.Teaching Aims and Demands

1.Knowledge objectives

 Words: ourselves, climber, risk, accident, situation, kilo, rock, knife, blood, mean, importance, decision, control, spirit, death.

 Phrases: be used to, take risks, run out(of), cut off, get out of, be in control of

2.Ability objectives

 Students can get more information they want from the reading by using some reading skills,such as predicting,skimming, scanning and mind-map.

3.Emotion objectives

  God will help those who help themselves.

We have but one life in the world.Students should develop the spirit of never giving up.

Ⅲ.Teaching Key Points

Be able to read and understand the new words,main phrases and the

whole passage.

.Teaching difficulties

a. Key words and phrases.

b. Students master the reading skills ---predicting,skimming, scanning and mind-map.

Ⅴ.Analysis of the Students

The students are in Grade 8.They are active ,curious and interested in language learning,especially interested in mountain climbing.But some students  are short of reading skills and cant comprehend a passage well in English,so I will try to arrange many activities to help them master reading skills.

Ⅵ.Teaching Thoughts

As we all know,it is essential to keep students interested in English and cultivate their basic abilities of English language in middle school.In order to achieve the above teaching objectives and carry out the new curriculum standard which taking students as the main body,I will use the following teaching and learning methods such as  Competition teaching method,situational teaching method ,task-based language teaching method and cooperative learning and individual learning methods. In this class I am going to use the multimedia,video teaching resources,PPT and some pictures.

Through these methods,students can have the opportunity to participate in teaching activities independently,thus developing their consciousness of cooperation and interpersonal communication.I believe our students will be more confident in class.When evaluating students,we should give priority to encouragement and give attention to praise and correction,such asgood job,have a try,try again,it doesn’t matter .We help students regulate their own learning process,obtain a sense of achievement and enhance self-confidence.

1、Predicting ------Ask students to read the title of the passage,and look at the picture, they can make a prediction according to the title and the picture.

A He gave up (放弃) climbing. B He kept on climbing.

2、Skimming

1)、Fast reading

Match the main ideas with the right paragraphs according to the first or last sentence of each paragraph.

2)、Careful reading--details

Read Paragraph1 and fill in some information.( name;nationality; hobby; experience)

Read paragraph2 put the phrases into the correct order.

Read paragraph3 and 4 Answer the questions

What did Aron do after the accident?

What can we learn from Aron?

(3)Competition. Finish the task according to key words--who、when、where、how、what and why.

3、Scanning----Moving your eyes quickly down the page to find the specific information.

4、Mind-map------Summarize the main idea of the passage.

Step3 Post-reading

Retell the story according to the passage.

Step4 Summary

What can we learn from the passage ?

1. We developed reading skills.

2. We also learned a true story,and we know God will help those who help themselves. We have but one life in the world.”

3. We should never give up when facing any difficulty.

Step5 Homework

Ask students to watch the movie called 127Hours.

Share the story next time.
