英国大学录取---大学和学院招生服务中心（UCAS）申请

Unlike US universities where you often don’t decide your degree subject at the time of application, for UK universities the degree subjects needed to be decided which is what you will be studying for the next 3, 4 years. Therefore, awareness of one’s focused academic interests is essential. This explains how UK university admissions focuses on assessing applicant’s passion and commitment to the applied subject in comparison to the overall roundedness like in US admissions.

和申请美国大学时无需决定专业学位不同，申请英国大学时你需要明确你接下来3、4年的的专业学位。因此，了解你的专业兴趣是很有必要的。也因为这个原因，英国大学录取时十分注意评估申请者对申请专业的热情和忠实程度，这和美国大学录取时全面评估的方式不大一样。

UK university admissions is relatively simple compared to US where only one personal statement is required for all the universities (up to 5) applied. 

英国大学申请要比美国大学申请简单，申请者申请任何英国大学（包括前5名）都只需要提交一份个人陈述。

The most common academic curricula used to apply to UK are GCSEs and A-Levels. 

• GCSE: age 14-16 qualification
• A-Level: age 16-18 qualification

+ Proof of English proficiency (often IELTS)

最常用的学术课程成绩是普通中等教育证书（GCSE）和英国高中课程（A-Levels）

• 普通中等教育证书: 适用于14-16岁申请者
• 英国高中课程: 适用于16-18岁申请者

Academic Qualifications 学术资格：

Because GCSE is only offered in selected schools offering British curriculum, many Chinese applicants can choose to use 会考compensate the lack of GCSEs. This is especially important if applying to Oxbridge as they put weightage on both A-Levels and GCSEs.

因为只有少数特定的英国课程学校开设普通中等教育证书课程（GCSE），许多中国申请者可以用会考成绩充抵GCSE。这对准备申请牛津大学的申请者来说尤其重要，因为牛津大学会综合考虑GCSE和英国高中课程（A-Levels）。

As for A-Levels, even if your school doesn’t offer A-Levels, you can easily prepare and take exams yourself independently. Under these circumstances, tests will need to be taken at specific test centers such as the British Council. Alternatively, if you happen to be applying to both UK and US and therefore already have SAT and APs, you can use these to apply instead of A-Levels.

对于选择英国高中课程（A-Levels）的申请者来说，即使你所在的学校没有开设A-Levels，你也可以稍加准备独自参加考试，不过需要在制定考试中心参考如英国文化协会。如果你恰好同时在申请英国大学和美国大学，已经有美国学术能力评估测试（SAT）和美国大学预修课程（APs）成绩，你也可以用它们代替A-Levels。

English Language Requirement 英语要求：

One thing that I would like to clarify is that although IELTs is the most well recognized English proficiency test for UK university admissions but is not the only way to prove English proficiency and therefore is not a ‘must take’. You may not need to take IELTs or other English proficiency test such as TOEFL at all.

在这我想要澄清一点，虽然雅思考试（IELTS）是英国大学最认可的英语水平考试，但它不是证明你英语水平的唯一途径，所以雅思并不是“非考不可”的。你可能根本不需要考雅思或是其他英语水平测试考试如托福（TOEFL）。

Often if you have GCSEs qualifications or are an IB candidate (taught in English), there is a good chance that you may be exempt from having to take IELTs but these conditions are different for different universities.

通常如果你有GCSE资格，或者是IB学生（英语授课），很有可能你就不需要考雅思了，不过不同学校具体要求不一样。

For Oxford applicants, IB candidates and English using international school students are exempt from IELTs conditions

如果你申请牛津大学，IB学生和使用英语的国际学校学生都不要求雅思成绩。

不需要满足此要求的申请者需满足：

 

• IB项目学生，且是英文授课
• 新加坡综合项目（SIPCAL）学生
• 在10月15日申请截止日期之前近两年接受全日制英文教学，且在学期结束前在原籍国一直接受英语教学。

Imperial is very flexible English language requirement for admissions:

But for those who have to take IELTs, IELTs grades do not need to be submitted at the UCAS submission. IELTs grades just need to be submitted before September the year of entry.

We apply to UK universities using an online form called UCAS (Universities and Colleges Admissions Service) between September 1st and January 15th of 3rd year high school. In UCAS, there are 3 areas of assessment:

申请英国大学时，申请者需在高三那年9月1日-1月15日期间线填写名为UCAS（大学和学院招生服务中心）的表格。UCAS主要评估3个领域:

• Education history/ academic qualifications up to now + still left to take
• Personal statement
• Reference letter

Almost too simple to be true. But that’s it!

For competitive universities and courses, there are additional assessments:

• Admissions tests

Often Oxbridge and Medicine applicants will have sit some or all of the above additional assessments and these applications are significantly more time consuming than the average applications that only requires UCAS submission.
