Kelly was allergic to the sunThe doctor said it wasincurable.可知凯莉对阳光过敏,根据第四段for he could tell her stories about birds and squirrels可知,她想出去看看动物。

根据第一段的Roma Pass Kit (套装) enables both touristsand interested local residents the opportunity to benefit from variousdiscounts and services that make it easier and cheaper to enjoy the sights ofRome.

Almost all the museums normally are closed on December 25 ,January l and May l too.

C

When you go to the doctor, you like to come away with aprescriptionIt makes you feel better to know you willget some medicineBut the doctor knows that medicine is notalways neededSometimes all a sick person needs is somereassurance that all will be wellIn such casesthe doctor may prescribe a placebo

A placebo is a sugar pilla harmless shotorail empty capsuleEven though they have no medicine in them, these things seem to make people wellThe patientthinks it is medicine and begins to get betterHow does thishappen?

The study of the placebo opens up new knowledge about the waythe human body can heal itselfIt is as ifthere was a doctor in each of usThe doctor willheal the body for us if we let itBut it is notyet known just how the placebo works to heal the bodySomepeople say it works because the human mind fools itselfThesepeople say that if the mind is fooled into thinking it got medicinethenit will act as if it didand the bodywill feel better

Placebos do not always workThe success ofthis treatment seems to rest a lot with the relationship between the patientand the doctorIf the patient has a lot of trust in thedoctor and if the doctor really wants to help the patientthenthe placebo is more likely to workSo in a way, thedoctor is the most powerful placebo of all

Aplacebo can also have bad effectsIf patientsexpect a bad reaction to medicinethen they willalso show a bad reaction to the placeboThis would seemto show that a lot of how you react to medicine is in your mind rather than inyour bodySome doctors still think that if theplacebo can have bad effects it should never be usedTheythink there is still not enough known about it

Thestrange power of the placebo does seem to suggest that the human mind is strongerthan we think it isThere are people who say you can heal yourbody by using your mindAnd theinteresting thing is that even people who swear this is not possible have beenhealed by a placebo

28What does theunderlined word “it” in Paragraph 5 refer to?

  ATheplacebo                                 BThebad effect

  CThebody                                     DThemedicine

29What do we knowabout placebo according to the passage?

AIt contains some sort of medicine

BIt won’tfunction if you are negative about medicine

CPeoplewho don’t believe placebo can’t be healed by it

DPatientsand doctors know clearly how it helps to heal the body

30Why is thedoctor sometimes the most powerful placebo?

  AThepatient needs help badly

  BThepatient believes in the doctor

CThedoctor knows better about your body

  DThedoctor has carefully studied medicine

31What is the besttitle for the text?

Some people like to listen to the Beatleswhile othersprefer Gregorian chantsWhen it comes tomusic , scientists find that nurture can overpower nature

A study shows musical preferences seem to be mainly shaped by a person’scultural upbringing and experiences rather than biological factors“Ourresults show that there is a profound cultural difference in the way peoplerespond to consonant(和谐的)and dissonant(不和谐的)soundsandthis suggests that other cultures hear the world differently,” says JoshMcDermotta scientist in Cambridge

Some scientists believe that the way people respond to music has abiological basis and that this would overpower any cultural shaping of musicalpreferences , effectively making them a universal phenomenonSomemusiciansby contrast , think that such preferencesare more a product of one’s cultureIf a person’supbringing shapes their preferencesthen they arenot a universal phenomenon

Thetrick to working out where musical preferences come from was to find and testpeople who hadn’t had much contact with Western musicMcDermottand his team travelled by aeroplanecar and canoe toreach the remote villages of the Tsimane’ peoplewho are largelyisolated from Western culture

Intheir experimentsMcDermott and his colleagues investigatedresponses to Western music by playing combinations of notes to three groups ofpeoplethe Tsimane’ and two other groups ofBolivians that had experienced increasing levels of exposure to Western musicTheresearchers recorded whether each group regarded the notes as pleasant orunpleasant

TheTsimane’ are just as good at making acoustic(声响的)distinctionsas the groups with more experience of other types of musicthescientists findMost people prefer consonant tonesbutthe Tsimane’ have no preference between them“This prettyconvincingly rules out that the preferences are things we’re born with’’ McDermottargues

“Cultureplays a roleWe like the music we grew up with”agreesDale Purvesa scientist at Duke University“Natureversus nurture is always a fool’s errand’’It’s almostalways a combinationhe adds

32Why does theauthor mention Beatles in the first paragraph?

  AToarouse reader’s interest

  BTo stress theimportance of music

CTointroduce the topic to be discussed

DToencourage readers to listen to their music

33McDermott wouldmost probably agree that __________

Apeople’smusic preference is a universal phenomenon

BChineseand Japanese have different music preferences

Ctheway people respond to music is biologically decided

Dparentshave nothing to do with children’s music preference

34What do we knowabout the Tsimane’ in the experiment?

  ATheyprefer consonant tones

BTheyare born with excellent music talent

CTheydo well in telling acoustic distinctions

Iwanted to feel the fear and do it anyway. 故选A

What

此处to do表示目的。故填topromote

注意:1.每处错误及其修改均仅限一词;

      2.只允许修改l0处,多者(从第11处起)不计分。

I amthere visiting my uncle可知时态为一般现在时,故happened改为 happens

Invitesb to do sth邀请某人做某事,故for 改为 to

But for  Without表示要不是你,故But 改为 But for 或者 Without

故you 改为 your

But for  Without表示要不是你,故But 改为 But for 或者 Without
