Lesson plan

Analysis of the teaching material

This unit aims at teaching students to master months ,knowledge some festivals in China or in western countries and how to use this structure “When  is the …?” “It’s in ….”to communicate with others .

Analysis of the students

Students have learned English for five terms  so that they are interested in learning English . Students are at the age of between ten  and twelve , they are naughty and curious. Therefore ,teachers should create more opportunity to students to show themselves .

Lesson duration: 40mins

Teaching contents: vocabulary of months  

Type of the lesson: Vocabulary, speaking

Teaching objectives:

By the end of the lesson, students should be able to:

1、 say the months ,some festivals in English and master their abbreviations  

2、 master how to use the language knowledge in communication  

Main points: master the pronunciation of months and their abbreviation , use the language knowledge in communication

Difficult points: understanding and using the sentence structure: “When is the …?” “ It’s in …”to communicate with other people .

Teaching and leaning methods: observational method, communicative method,  cooperative learning, role-play

Teaching aids: blackboard, chalk, PPT, pictures

Teaching procedures:

Step 1:Lead –in  

a ) Enjoy a song : “What’s your favorite season ?”

b) free talk

For example:

T: What’s your favorite season ?

S :Spring… .

T :Why ?

S:Because …

(lead in teacher’s favorite season is summer and the reason )

Step 2 Presentation

a)   Present the picture of summer vacation to teach July and August .

b)  Use video or  the picture of festivals to teach  the other months

 T: Well ! After summer vacation ,we will go to school in September. (teach September , use video or pictures  to lead in what holiday is in September and teach the words about holiday ) And use the structure “When is the …?” “It’s in ….” to practice.

According to above way to present the other months

 (Pay attention to the abbreviations of months and capitalize the first letter in each month).

c)   lead students to read these new words several times(个别学生读,一列或一排学生读,小组读以及全班读)

d)  Game time (Bomb炸弹游戏)

(This step aims at checking whether students master the new knowledge about months )

 

Step 3Consolidation  

1、      Show and guess (你秀我猜)

小组竞赛,屏幕出示节日图片,每个小组要迅速站起来并用英文说出节日及所在月份,又快又准的组得2分。

2、Ask and write(book page28)

3、Be a reporter (在小组内调查同学们的生日及该月份会出现的节假日并向同学们回报调查结果)

(This step aims at testing whether students master the new knowledge and developing students oral English ability.)

Step 4 Summary

1、      Words and phrases:

July, August ,September ,October November ,December ,China’s national Day, Mid-Autumn Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas

2、sentences:

When is …?

It’s in….

 Homework

1listen and remember the new words

2 finish the relevant workbook exercises

3preview next lesson by looking up words and translating the sentences

After class reflection

This lesson is not sufficiently effective. First I’m in charge of the time that is not good. Secondly, I give the directive is a little difficult for students, so I should strength the teachers class-language. Next lesson I should make good use time to complete the objective of the lesson.
