不忘故旧敬尊长，

卑恭有节正贤良。

不无小补群凝聚，

亢厉为能遭祸殃。

对人有恰当的分寸，既不低声下气，也不傲慢自大。To person has appropriate sense of propriety, neither lowly nor arrogant.同：不骄不躁、不矜不伐。反：俯首听命、俯首帖耳。歇：打柴不拿绳子。 春秋末年齐国宰相晏婴奉命出使楚国，楚王百般刁难他，先是让他从小门进城，然后说他是矮子，用最差的饭菜招待他，最后用两个齐国囚犯来羞辱他，均被他的不卑不亢的态度及高超的外交才能所折服，结果楚王自取其辱。
