    茅山村曾名杨家村，西临东江（奉化江的一条支流），南望走马塘。在鄞南平原上有二座“名山”——姜山和茅山，山不在高，有仙则名，茅山据传汉代茅盈、茅固、茅震，骑鹤居此山，后人以为神异，山以“茅”名，并被称为“南来第一山”。茅山南麓原有始建于梁乾化二年（912）的普安寺，上世纪四十年代初，一场大火将寺宇烧得只剩残墙断壁，今尚存寺后宋代古井一口，原山门的牌楼名叫“锁翠关云”，楼下悬挂着“南来第一山”匾额，现匾额由文保员邬毛银收藏在走马塘自办的档案馆内。在茅山还有天一阁主人明故兵部右侍朗范钦墓以及抗日进步组织鄞县乡村师范读书会的主要活动场所——茅山鄞县乡村师范学校旧址（位于鄞州区姜山镇茅山初级中学内）。茅山的杨家村里古宅众多，在东江上原有始建于1905年的陡门桥（上世纪60年代末陡门桥进行了重修），在2010年被运沙船撞击成危桥，已在原址新建一座钢铁桥，现在又因防洪江工程的需要，陡门桥老街也已被拆除。
