I can work with this
1.
例:
It's not the university that I reallywanted to go to, but I suppose I'll just have to make the best of it.(这不是我心仪的大学,但既来之则安之。)
We are stuck here, so we might as well makethe best of it.(我们既然已经被困在这里了,就随遇而安吧,看看能做点什么。)
2. bite the bullet: to accept anunpleasant or difficult situation and say that you will deal with it
例:
It's not easy, but as a manager, sometimesyou have to bite the bullet and fire people.(解雇别人,自己心里会很难受,但是作为经理,有时候不得不勉强为之。)
''bite the bullet''望文生义就知道这不是什么好差事了。
3. beggars can't be choosers: saidwhen you have to accept something you do not like because you do not have themoney or power to choose anything else
例:
It would be nice to have a suit with abetter fit, but as they say, beggars can't be choosers.(要是西装更合身点就更好了。
Edie's a beggar now, which means she can'tbe a chooser. Of course, we don't have to add salt to the wound.(伊迪现在落魄了一无所有,不会东挑西拣的。
原来“东挑西拣”的人是Mrs.Huber啊!
4. that's the way the cookie crumbles: said when telling someone that a difficult situation must beaccepted, especially because there is no way to prevent it or there is nothinganyone can do about it
例:
"Sorry you didn't get the job,Mike." "Yeah, thanks. I guess that's the way the cookiecrumbles."
5. grit your teeth: to accept asituation or job you do not like and try to deal with it in a determined way 咬牙坚持
例:
I was desperately unhappy in that job, buthad to grit my teeth and stay smiling for the sake of my children.(那份工作我做得非常不开心,但是为了孩子们,我只好咬牙坚持、工作时强颜欢笑。)
6. resign yourself to/be resigned to:to realize that you must accept an unpleasant situation, because you cannotprevent it or avoid it
例:
The children have had to resign themselvesto being without their father.(孩子们只好接受失去父亲的现实。)
resign yourself to the fact (that)
I'm resigned to the fact that I'm not goingto get the job.(我必须接受没聘上那份工作的现实。)
