“The price is too expensive.” 这个句子译成中文好像没什么问题

不过那是因为在中文里，我们的确可以说一个东西很贵，也可以说一个东西的价格很贵

但在英文里，只能说某个事物便宜或贵

也就是说当你要用形容词 cheap (廉价的) / inexpensive (不贵的) / expensive (昂贵的) 时

只能用事物当主语

比如：Carrots are cheap. (红萝卜价格低廉。)

Non-smartphones are inexpensive these days. (现在非智能型手机价格不高。)

It is expensive to fly first-class. (坐头等舱飞机是很贵的。)

(注意中文里说的便宜，往往只是指价格不高，并不是真的廉价，所以往往该用 inexpensive 而不是 cheap )

当主词是 price 时，正确的形容词应该是 high (高) / low (低)

因此价格太贵要说 The price is too high. 才对；另一个说法是 The price is too steep.

虽然有些老外在口语上的确会说 The price is cheap / expensive. 这样的句子

但这毕竟不是正确的讲法，一般稍微受过教育的老外也会知道这其实是不对的

另外像这样常被误用的字还有 rent (租金)、speed (速度) 等

中文也会说租金很便宜/贵或速度很快/慢

但 rent / speed 搭配的形容词一样该是 high / low

所以应该说 The rent is too high. 而不是 The rent is too expensive.

The car was running at a high speed. 而不是 The car was running at a fast speed.
