Parking has long been a major headache for drivers in Shanghai. The Transportation Department is mapping out a new plan for the city’s parking system. There are one million cars on the road in Shanghai but only enough public parking spaces to provide room for 15 percent of these vehicles. It is no wonder that local drivers get so worried trying to find a place to park.
The city is seeing a rise in private car owners. In March, the city sent out 2, 000 private car licenses(驾照), the highest number of licenses ever sent out in a month. And prices rose to 14, 600 yuan, 500 more than in February. Industry experts say this suggests that local people have a strong, active interest in buying cars.
By the year 2020, the number of automobiles in Shanghai will probably reach two million. If one parking lot is for each car, then a lot of new parking spaces should be b uilt for these vehicles.
Downtown Shanghai is most short of parking spaces. However, experts point out that simply building more parking lots in downtown areas is not practical and doesn’t provide an ideal solution(解决办法). The idea of a“Park&Ride”system has been suggested. This means that drivers can leave their vehicles in car parks nearby subway or bus stations and ride public transport to go downtown. Based on this idea, the city will limit the number of parking lots in downtown areas and demand higher parking fees but build more parking areas near main subway and bus stops.

What would you do if
you were unemployed, homeless and you found a large sum of
money?
“For a second I thought about taking the money, ” she said later. “But only for a second. It wasn’t our money and we don’t want to set a bad example to our son. ” She delivered the wallet and the contents to the nearest police station, where the owner reclaimed them. Police admitted that they were surprised when the Nichters walked into the police station with the wallet and the money.
Word of the honesty quickly got around, and a grateful community responded in kind. The Nichters received more than ten job offers and an apartment rent-free for six months. An anonymous donor brought the car payments up-to-date. Others gave cash. One elderly couple walked into the police station where Pauline had turned in the wallet and asked how much money had been in it. When they were told the amount, the man said, “Then that’s what they deserve, ” and wrote out a check for $2, 400.

I often dreamed about Pisa when I was a boy. I read about the famous building called the Leaning Tower of Pisa. But when I read the word Pisa, I was thinking of pizza. I thought this tower was a place to buy pizza. It must be the best place to buy pizza in the world, I thought.
Many years later I finally saw the Leaning Tower. I knew then that it was Pisa and not pizza. But there was still something special about it for me . The tower got its name because it really does lean to one side. Some people want to try to fix it. They are afraid that it may fall over and they don’t like it leans over the city.
I do not think it’s a good idea to try to fix it. The tower probably will not fall down; it is 600 years old. Why should anything happen to it now? And, if you ask me, I like what it looks like. To me it is a very human kind of leaning. Nothing is perfect, as it seems to say.
And who cares? Why do people want things to be perfect? Imperfect things may be more interesting. Let’s take the tower in Pisa. Why is it so famous? There are many other older, more beautiful towers i n Italy. But Pisa tower is the most famous. People come from all over the world to see it.

My Friend—John
My friend, John, lives in a separate house alone by a village. A road divides it from the village. The other day, I invited him and other friends to my house and drank till midnight. I came out to see them off and separated on the road with them.
The next morning I went to my garden to pick vegetables and found my small garden had been destroyed by something. I got very angry, but didn’t know what to do. So I went to see John for hel p. I told him about that. He comforted me and said, “I’m sorry to hear that. Let’s go a nd take a look. ”In the garden John looked it over carefully and said, “It was a boar (野猪). It is certain to make trouble again and cause greater destruction to the villagers. We must get rid of it. ”He told me what to do. So we dug a pitfall (陷阱) in my small garden. Then put some food on it.
That night John and I hid near the garden. Around twelve o’clock a black thing suddenly appeared. It came nearer and nearer. A big boar! It stood there gazing around for a while, and then entered the garden slowly and swaggeringly. It was about to eat the food when we heard a loud bang.
