alive、live、living都有“活的、有生命的”意思，与dead意义相反。

但，三者之间在用法上还是很有区别的，如下：

一、意义理解和区别：

1、live

通常只作前置定语，且一般用于动物

2、alive

①可作定语，只能置于名词后，做后置定语；②也可以作表语。

3、living

可做定语，即可置于名词前做①前置定语、又可置于名词后做②后置定语，③也可作表语。

二、对比和用法：

1、用于形容动物且做定语时，三个词都可以用

There is a live bird. =

There is a living bird. =

There is a bird alive.

这有一只活的鸟。

2、用于形容人作定语时，用alive和living

He is one of the greatest scientists alive=

He is one of the greatest living scientists.

他是最伟大的还健在的科学家中的一个。

3、用于形容动物且做表语时，用alive和living

The old bird is still alive=

The old bird is still living.

这只年老的鸟还活着。

4、living和alive的差别

Living表示“活的”，alive强调“有气息的、有生气的”

①有时可引申表示为“敏感的；高兴的”

The general was alive to the imminent danger.

这将军觉察到潜伏的危险。

The whole house was alive with activity.

整幢房子里都很热闹。

Her face was alive with excitement.

她兴奋得眉飞色舞

②the living

用来表示“活着的人”，且视作复数群体。

The living who survived from the war should learn the lesson.
