In contrast to her website picture in which she and two friends are hanging out in front of an Auntie Anne's kiosk, Francesca Battistelli is not coming to the area to visit the home of the world- famous pretzel she adores.

'I actually did get to meet [founder] Anne [Beiler] this last fall,' Battistelli said recently in a phone interview. 'She's a big Christian music fan, and she came out to a show I was part of.'

Specialists strive to keep clothing kosher

Think of them as the forensic sleuths of the Jewish world.

They perform their signature mitzvah by delving deep into the object of inquiry, carefully extracting samples and then peering into a miscroscope in search of telltale bits of evidence.

Their quarry, however, is neither bullet fragments, traces of poison nor anything else that is likely to find its way into an episode of CSI Miami.

They are hunting, instead, for wool and linen fibers in a garment, a mixture known in Hebrew as shatnez that is biblically prohibited. The commandment is one of the Torah's more obscure injunctions, and it is not widely observed (much less known about), except in the Orthodox world.

The corps of trained shatnez hunters that service that population may number in the hundreds nationwide, most of them located in the New York metropolitan area.

CARSON CITY, Nev. - Nevada officials on Tuesday outlined drastic cuts to the state's Medicaid program that include plans to ration adult diapers, eliminate denture and hearing-aid programs, and force personal care assistants to buy their own disposable gloves.
