 羌族现主要聚居在四川西部茂汶，其余散居在汶川、理县、黑水、松潘等地。人口１９８２５２人（１９９０年第四次人口普查）。羌族自称“尔玛”，意为“本地人”。其族源可溯至三千多年前的左羌人。

达斡尔族主要聚居在内蒙古自治区和黑龙江省，少数居住在新疆塔城县。“达斡尔”意即“开拓者”。族源契丹。十七世纪中叶，这个民族为维护祖国统一，打响了武装抗击沙俄入侵的第一枪。在浴血奋战了半个世纪之后，离开了世居的黑龙江北岸，南迁到大兴安岭、嫩江流域。人口１２．１４万（１９９０年第４次人口普查）。
