中医专家张林大夫(原北京军区总医院专家门诊部主任），历经36年的潜心研究，克服了千难万险，攻克了道道难关，经7代杂交选育、终于将仙人枣人工栽培成功。这一壮举填补了国际生物学上的一项空白，这是我们洛阳人的骄傲。
仙人枣（黑蕊羊桃），木质藤本，果实似枣，可食率99.8%。它红皮红肉，甜酸可口（含糖16-18度，含酸1.2-1.6%）。自然果重15克，一叶三果,大果为25克左右。果中维生素C含量每100克高达212-549毫克，是苹果的50倍，是梨的100倍以上；它的铁、锌、钙的含量极为丰富，尤其是钙的含量为 679毫克/100克，实为果中钙王；它富含人体所必须的17种氨基酸，也是任何一种水果无法比拟的。更为称道的是它所含有大量的花青素（各种水果之最）、花红素、硒、梨芦醇、仙枣碱等多种抗癌元素。试验证明，其果汁对致癌物质“亚吗啉”的阻断率高达98.5%，实为举世难觅。总之它无愧于高能水果的美誉。
仙人枣极抗病虫，多年栽培未发现特殊病虫害，亦未喷施过任何杀虫剂，年年枝繁叶茂，果实累累，它属于完全意义上的有机功能型水果。
仙人枣的叶能制成极为珍贵的高档保健茶，它不仅改变了北方不能种茶的历史，更为可贵的是它的种植勿需喷打杀虫剂，是真正意义上的有机茶。仙枣茶久冲不淡（滚水连冲8次，色味仍浓，奇异无比。冲泡过之茶叶可食，入口即化，安神除烦（对顽固性失眠患者尤为适宜。润肠通便，无不称道）不苦不涩，香滑润泽，回甘悠长。常饮仙枣茶，能清除“血渍”，活血化瘀，祛风除湿，阻断致癌物，利尿排毒，消除瘀斑，气色红润，确为养生美容之圣品。
仙人枣的茎与根因含有丰富的仙枣碱（生物碱）及多种抗癌物质，所以它是中医治癌及心、脑血管病、风湿、类风湿诸病的极为珍稀的中药（已为大量的临床病例所证实），疗效确切，作用独特。
综上所述，仙人枣是一种中国独有的，多用途复合型的珍稀植物，在自然界现已濒临灭绝，亟待拯救。
