The weight of dry soil contained in a certain amount of natural clods, this is what we call soil density, namely, soil bulk density. Its measuring unit is g/cm3.

Generally, the soil bulk density stands among 1.0-1.9 g/cm3, and it’s relatively suitable for plants to grow when the soil bulk density is among 1.1-1.4 g/cm3. While the density is above 1.4g/cm3, the growth of plants’ root will be restricted because of the tight soil, and then the ventilating and drainage would be influenced, thus plants wouldn’t grow well.
