EVERY ONE MUST READ THIS

The Buddha explained how to handle insult and maintain compassion. One
day Buddha was walking through a village. A very angry and rude young
man came up and began insulting him. 'You have no right teaching
others, he shouted.' You are as stupid as everyone else. You are
nothing but a fake.'

Buddha was not upset by these insults. Instead he asked the young man
'Tell me, if you buy a gift for someone, and that person does not take
it, to whom does the gift belong?'

The man was surprised to be asked such a strange question and
answered, 'It would belong to me, because I bought the gift.'

The Buddha smiled and said, 'That is correct. And it is exactly the
same with your anger. If you become angry with me and I do not get
insulted, then the anger falls back on you. You are then the only one
who becomes unhappy, not me. All you have done is hurt yourself.'

It was not till the 20th century that a need for the creation of secular forms of popular meditative techniques began to be felt. But for the most part these New Age meditative systems were little more than rehashed versions of older techniques, which had been extracted from their religious contexts. Transcendental Meditation (TM), as propagated by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, is one such version, which grew out of the Hindu practice of `naam japa` or `yoga japa` during the 1960`s.

Swatmarama begins the teaching in the traditional way, by prostrating before the gurus. First he prostrates before the Adi Guru, the first guru-Lord Siva, and then before his disciple Matsyendranath and his disciple Gorakshanath. Through their grace, Swatmarama expounds this great science.

Vidya means knowledge. The knowledge of Hatha Yoga was first taught by Siva to his consort Parvati, the Universal Mother.

The purpose of Hatha Yoga is to give you the knowledge of controlling these two energies “Ha” and “Tha” (Prana and Apana). Without this knowledge it is very difficult to gain that control over the mind, which is called Raja Yoga. Raja Yoga deals with the mind, Hatha Yoga works with the prana a

Stages of Yoga

The primary aim of yoga is to restore the mind to simplicity, peace, and poise, to free it from confusion and distress.

This simplicity, this sense mind of order and calm, comes from the practice of asanas and pranayama.

Yoga asanas integrate the body, the mind, the intelligence and, finally,
the self - in four stages.

The first stage in the practice of yoga is one in which we practise at the    level of the physical body. This is known in the classical term as    arambhavastha.

The second stage is when the practictioner learns to move in unison with    the body. This is known in the classical term as ghatavastha.

The third stage occurs when the intelligence and the body become one.    This is known in the classical term as parichayavastha.
