Human Nature

There is no single definition of human nature,for the simple reason that we are all individuals and no two humans are,or can ever be,exactly alike.

Many an institution has been set up to try and make sense of the inscrutable nature of we human beings and,although an inroad has been made,it is only instrumental in showing how little we really understand.

We tend to institutionalise those of us that do not conform to the common standards and we sometimes class them as insane,but is insanity really the disease?

It is highly instructive to read the huge amount of wisdom that so many learned men sought to inscribe throughout the centuries in order to fulfil their insatiable,if sometimes,insalubrious,quest to define human nature.

Occasionally,we find a truly insightful inscr

1. Savor Everyday Moments

Pause now and then to smell a rose or watch children at play. Study participants who took time to “savor” ordinary events that they normally hurried through, or to think back on pleasant moments from their day, “showed significant increases in happiness and reductions in depression,” says psychologist Sonja Lyubomirsky.

2. Avoid Comparisons

While keeping up with the Joneses is part of American culture, comparing ourselves with others can be damaging

Keep the Young Heart(2009-05-13 00:43)
   Whether sixty or sixteen, there is in every human being's heart the lure of wonders, the unfailing childlike appetite of what's next and the joy of the game of living. In the center of your heart and my heart there is a wireless station: so long as it receives messages of beauty, hope, cheer, courage and power from men and from the infinite, so long are you young.

An individual human existence should be like a river—small at first, narrowly contained within its banks, and rushing passionately past boulders and over waterfalls. Gradually the river grows wider, the banks recede, the waters flow more quietly, and in the end, without any visible break, they become merged in the sea, and painlessly lose their individual being.

Youth means a temperamental predomin

I work extremely hard every day, but I’m very tired. I need to work smarter, not harder. I must find better ways to do my job. I must find more time to enjoy life. I know hard work is a part of everybody’s life. But I work is ruining my health. My hard work is killing me. Other people have time for fun, going to bars and going to parties. All I do is get on the bus and go to work every day. This is too hard. I need to make a fresh start.

  约翰·柏洛兹(John Burroughs)的二十余卷博物学著作, 《猎鹿人》 (The Deerslayer)、《最后的莫希干人》 (The Last of the Mohicans)的作者库柏(James F. Cooper)的小说,库柏之女苏珊·库柏(Sus

Smiles(2009-04-04 15:00)

     Smiles send us light in the darkness. Smiles bring us warm sunlight on a cold winter day. Smiles can break the ice. Smiles are like rainbows. Rainy days end and the sky is beautiful again.

     Smiles show love and friendship. Teachers' smiles encourage us. Mothers' smiles warm us. Friends' smiles make us feel closer.

     We welcome smiles from others. And we should give others our smiles too. No one is richer than a man who often smiles at others. If a man doesn't smile at you, just smile at him. Smiles help you forget your sadness. Lif

change the world(2009-04-01 12:42)

People are often unreasonable, illogical and self-centered;
Forgive them anyway.

If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives;
Be kind anyway.

If you are successful, you will win some false friends
And some true enemies;
Succeed anyway.

If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you;
Be honest and frank anyway.

What you spend years building,
Someone could destroy overnight;
Build anyway.

If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous;
Be happy anyway.

The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow;
Be good anyway.

Give the world the best you have,
And it may never be enough;
Give the world the best you have anyway
