 BY Chloe Chen (陈洁)

The Lantern Festival (元宵节) is the last day of the Chinese New Year celebration. This day is for the last moment for setting off fireworks, the last excuse for eating a big feast and the last chance for family getting together before the “年” celebrations are over. (Latern Festival is also a traditional time of celebration for foreigners who live in China).

The Lantern Festival, the 15th of the first month of the lunar calendar, is the first full moon of the year. Celebrations and traditions on this day date back to the Western Han Dynasty.

Traditions for this festival: as the name indicates, hanging and looking at lanterns is

There can only be one!

BY Chloe Chen
With the approach of the lunar new year, many Chinese people have to make a choice: to cut their hair or lose their uncles (here, 舅舅 jiùjiu, the your mother's brothers).

It’s obvious uncles are much valuable than haircuts, especially during the Spring Festival, when uncles are quite useful for handing out lucky new years' money (压岁钱). So no matter whether you are a boy or a girl, in order to save their uncles’ lives, everyone would prefer to have their hair cut before the Spring Festival eve (除夕夜). That’s why barber shops are always so busy this time of this year.

Have you worn the long underpants?

Chinese Language to Dominate the Internet

Since the advent of the internet, the majority of its users have always used English. But in a few years, for the first time ever, English-speakers on the net will be in the minority.

Since the advent of the internet, the majority of its users have always used English. There are a lot of reasons for that. The internet's origins are in an English-speaking country, global perceptions are that English is an 'international' language, heck, the coding languages that all websites are written in are even based in English. But in a few years, for the first time ever, English-speakers on the net will be in the minority.

The Chinese internet has been growing at a breakneck pace, with tens of millions of new users getting online
