When The Thorn Birds (written by Colleen McCullough) was first introduced by my mother as ‘An Australian Gone with the Wind’, I didn’t show much interest in reading it, for Gone with the Wind was one of my favourite novels in English that could not be compared with. But since I opened the book on a stormy night, wandering in the lonely world of Maggie Cleary, the only girl at home who was always forgotten but never gave up her love for life, I couldn’t help falling in love with it. Honestly, it is a book that is really worth reading. It was, it is, and it always will be.
