I know who holds tomorrow

I don't know about tomorrow;

I just live from day to day.

I don't borrow from its sunshine

For its skies may turn to grey.

I don't worry o'er the future,

For I know what Jesus said.

And today I'll walk beside Him,

For He knows what is ahead.

Many things about tomorrow

I don't seem to understand

But I know who holds tomorrow

And I know who holds my hand.

Every step is getting brighter

As the golden stairs I climb;

Every burden's getting lighter,

Every cloud is silver-lined.

There the sun is always shining,

There no tear will dim the eye;

At the ending of the rainbow

Where the mountains touch the sky.

Many things about tomorrow

I don't seem to understand

But I know who holds tomorrow

And I know who holds my hand.

I don't know about tomorrow;

It may bring me poverty.

But the one who feeds the sparrow,

Is the one who stands by me.

And the path that is my portion

May be through the flame or flood;

But His presence goes before me

And I'm covered with His blood.

The Wife Who Has Noble Character

She rises while the deep sleep is still on men.

She is the wife who has noble character. The wisdom in her heart makes her glow softly in the darkness.

The heart of her husband trusts in her, for she brings him full confidence all the days of her life.

She gives glory to her husband, and her husband is known and respected among people. She is worth far more than all things on earth.

She rises while the deep sleep is still on men.

She is the woman who has noble character. The wisdom in her heart makes her have great power.

She provides food for her family, opens her arms to the poor, and extends her hands to the needy.

Her husband rises up and calls her blessed, and he praises her also. She is worth far more than all things on earth.

She rises while the deep sleep is still on men.

She is the mother who has noble character. Wisdom is in her mouth and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue.

She teaches her children that the fear of God is wisdom and to turn away from evil is understanding. She preaches the true life into their hearts, for she knows that the spirit of truth will lead them in good way, even the way of life.

Her children rise up and call her blessed. They make her rejoice. She is worth far more than all things on earth.

There are many women who do noble things, but she surpasses them all.

She is a woman who fears God. He puts wisdom in her heart and gives understanding to her mind.

Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain, but the wisdom in her heart is true.

Her husband praises her. Her friends love her. And her children look up on her and follow her, for the characters from her heart are the fruit of the tree of life.

The wife who has noble character, she is worth far more than all things on earth.

The will of the Lord

Scripture Reading: Deuteronomy 1:19-46,

Exodus 13, 14, 15

By great power the Lord brought the people of Israel out of Egypt, from the house of slavery (Exodus 13:14). In the way of the great and terrifying wilderness, the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead them along the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, that they might travel by day and night (Exodus 13:21). He endured their conduct for about forty years (Acts 13:18) and carried them as a man carries his son. At last, he brought them before the land which he had given them.

Why did the Lord bring the people of Israel out of Egypt, through the wilderness, into the land of Canaan? What is the will of the Lord?

The answer is found in Exodus 15, the song of Moses. The Lord uses the great power of righteousness against His enemies, leads the people whom He has redeemed in His steadfast love, and guides them to His holy dwelling by His strength. He will bring them in and plant them on His own mountain, the place which He has made for Himself, the sanctuary which His hands have established. The Lord will reign in righteousness and love for ever and ever!

What did the Israelites do before the land that God had given them? The Lord saved Israel that day from the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the great power that the Lord used against the Egyptians, so the people feared the Lord, and they believed in the Lord and in His servant Moses (Exodus 14:30-31). But now because of being afraid and discouraged they did not believe in the Lord and in Moses. They grumbled and said that the Lord did not love them, He brought them out of the land of Egypt, to give them into the hand of e Amorites, to destroy them. They rebelled against the command of the Lord and were unwilling to enter the land of Canaan.

The Lord punished the Israelites because they despised the pleasant land, even the land that God has promised them. They did not believe His promise, grumbled in their tents and did not obey the Lord. So He swore to them with uplifted hand that he would make them fall in the desert, make their descendants fall among the nations and scatter them among the lands (Psalms 106:24-27).

The Lord also punished Moses and Aaron, the leaders of Israel, because they did not trust in Him enough to honor Him as holy in the sight of the Israelites, they would not bring this community into the land He gave them (Numbers 20:12).

The Pillars of Conscience

Scripture Reading: Deuteronomy 1:9-18, Exodus 4, 18:13-27

God is faithful. In Deuteronomy 1:9-18, Moses says that God has multiplied the Israelites as numerous as the stars in the sky. He blesses them as he has promised.

He also says that he could not bear their problems, burdens, and disputes all by himself when the Israelites multiplied.

What did Moses do then?

Jethro, Moses’ father-in-law, visited him and gave him some advice (Exodus 18:17-20). At that time, God appeared through Jethro to show His way to Moses. Moses had wisdom and understanding to look for able men from all the people to share the burden with him.

Who are able men?

If you read the verse 18:21 in Exodus, you will see that those who fear God, who are trustworthy and hate a bribe are able men. For in their hearts, the righteousness of God becomes the pillars of their conscience.

From where do the power and authority of able men come?

God is righteous. He does good to those who are good and to those who are upright in their hearts (Psalms 125:4). God wants to give them His Word, His righteousness, His love, even His eternal life with great power and authority.

Let us read the story in Exodus 4. The Staff in Moses’ hand was just an ordinary one, but the Lord made it become a staff of God. It symbolized the righteousness of God here. Then Moses did great signs with this powerful staff, because the power and authority were from the righteousness of God inside his heart.

God knows that man is a sinner and must have some kind of authority over him. So He has fixed a day and appointed a man who is Jesus Christ to judge the world in righteousness (Acts 17:24-28). Rulers must bear the sword. The sword is the righteousness of God. When God gives the sword to able men, they will have power and authority to teach people about the statutes and the laws, judge and over them, and make them know the way to live and the duties they are to perform (Deuteronomy 1:18, Exodus 18:20).
