Dear Mr. and Mrs. Smith,
How are you now? I have just arrived in Shanghai, safe and sound. I’m writing to express my appreciation of your long-term generous help and care.
My two years’ study life in New York, in retrospect, is full of warmth and joy because of your parent-like treatment. I still can’t forget my birthday party in your home, can’t forget the birthday song by Bill, your little son, and can’t forget the present.

The pictures show us the difference between the students of the same school in 1970 and that in 2000. In 1970, the school was called “ Labor School”, and so many students there were thin that when an obese boy came, them all got surprised. In 2000, however, the school name became “Doctor School”, and the students there were just opposite to those 30 years ago. In the crowd of fat students, a thin one appeared to be peculiar.
The standard of living now is much higher than ever before. As a result, the surplus of nutrition, taking the place of the malnutrition, has become the main problem of teenagers. Another reason for this phenomenon is the view

The picture gives us three different answers from people of different age when asked how to be a good actor. A grandpa, who stands for actors born in 30s, believes that one should learn how to a good person before he could learn how to act. An aunt, stands for the 60s, argues that a good actor should learn from life. However, a young girl think a beautiful face and the ability of self-advertise is the key point, which seems to be the conception in modern times.
The three answers show the different outlooks of value of three generation of actors. In 30s, it is moral factors that are emphasized; in 60s, is the technique of action, and now, is something

Thank you very much for inviting me to your home to have a dinner tomorrow. I do want to have dinner with you, my best friend. However, I have to say sorry. Dear Sir,
As a student of this university, I would show my gratitude for your kindness and goodwill firstly. However I have to say that the conditions of the dormitory is something of unpleasure.
First of all, the electric fan is in the position from which it could send no wind to the bed. We always feel hard to fall asleep in summer nights because it is too hot. Besides, the ability of sound insulation of the dormitory is poor. Noise from the corridor can be clearly heard although all the windows and doors have been closed.
It would be appreciated if my suggestion could be taken into consideration.
Sincerely yours,
Li Ming

To Whom It May Concern,
I am a student of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and I am engaged in my graduation thesis these days. However I need some reference books urgently. So I think maybe you can give some help.
<Thinking in Java> and <Computer Networks> are exactly the books I need. But I can’t find them in my school library. I wonder whether I could get them from the National Library. If so, would you mind sending me by EMS? I would return them in two weeks, and pay the postage of both deliveries.
Thank you for your time and I am looking forward to your reply.
Sincerely yours,
Li Ming

Dear Mr. Wang,
I am sorry to inform you by this letter that I plan to resign from my current position, an editor for the magazine Design and Fashion.
Though the two-month working experience is joyful, I have to say that the job is not suitable for me. First of all, the salary is not as good as my expectation, and it could hardly afford my basic cost of living. What’s more, I can’t see any opportunities to undertake some challenging tasks working here.
I apologize in advance for any inconvenience it might bring.
Sincerely yours,
Li Ming
