国际航线飞行中的英语通讯调查报告（上）

      为了防止由于语言问题而引发的飞行事故，国际民航组织（ICAO）提出了语言能力要求（LPR），要求各缔约国在2008年3月5日之前，确保飞行国际航班的机组成员、管制人员达到国际民航组织语言级别表的第4级或以上的标准。现实中，国际航线飞行使用英语来通讯的具体情况是怎样的呢？国际航线飞行中的英语通讯还面临哪些问题？像中国这样的非英语母语国家的飞行员与管制员在使用英语通话时还有哪些问题值得关注？针对这些问题，美国民用航空医学研究所（CAMI）的韦罗尼卡·普林佐（O. Veronika Prinzo）所带领的小组做的调查研究，必将对回答上述问题有所启发。

学英语就是看动画片

    孩子上的是所谓的双语幼儿园，也就是每周有两次英语课。每次放学接他们，看到手上有sticker，就知道今天上了英语课。回家问他们学了什么，他们从来就没有回答过，除非你去教室外看贴出的课程安排计划，然后再问，他们总是想表现自己。“苹果怎么说？”“我知道。”“我知道。”就是不说，就像在教室里一样，非得等老师点到自己的名字才告诉答案。

    担心这样下去也不是办法，于是在网上买来光碟，自己在家补习。那些培训机构的这套光碟和书需要8000多块，网上的光碟也就几十元搞定。

    对他们来说，学英语跟看动画片是一样的，没有觉得是在学英语，只是需要我在旁边监督，维持秩序。唯一的要求就是李阳的所谓“三大”原则之一，大声原则，大声跟读，我在旁边提供中文的意思。每次花上20多分钟，就可以看完一小节，他们还能坚持坐住。一旦超时，兴趣也就转移了。每一节老师

四岁小朋友徒步峨眉山看雪

    不知是热还是太兴奋，小双半夜就醒了。早上七点刚过，他们没有任何怨言就起床了。收拾妥当，到峨眉山旅游客运车站都已经八点半了。由于是峨眉山旅游旺季开始的第二天，人并不多。小家伙们一路上都很兴奋，的确是第一次看到这样大的雪。

    车行了两个多小时，离雷洞坪还有200多米的地方，一辆观光车熄火堵住了道路，我们只得下车步行。

    山下还是四川常见的阴冷天气，山上却是大太阳，晒在身上还有一点暖意。厚厚的大雪把整个山都罩了起来，除了偶尔的几声鸟鸣，峨眉山就像戴上了巨大的耳机，没有其他半点声响。

    从雷洞坪开始爬山的那几步路，不知是走的人太多，还是为更好地出租冰爪，给很多人一个下马威，游人不是买上冰爪，就是带上赶猴棍。幸好山下的旅馆提供免费的冰爪，给两个小朋友系上，走

博士毕业后的三条道路

    毕业前夕的一次博士沙龙上，三位取得了显著成绩的博士就自己读博的收获、学术研究、论文写作、教学、生活等话题与硕博士同学分享了他们各自的感受与经验。提问环节，我抓住唯一的一个提问机会，向三位学长请教。我的问题是，“毕业后所到的工作单位，其科研环境大不如上外，外语学科往往沦为边缘，我们该怎么来继续维持自己的学术身份？”

    三位博士提出了三条不同的道路：一位认为要结合各自学校的主要专业来从事科研，变劣势为优势；一位指出我们应该志存高远，把目标定得高一点，以大师为榜样；一位则指出要半醒半糊涂，不断地申报各级课题，多去参加学术会议，多围绕自己的课题开新课。

    毕业一年半，也曾做过各种尝试，但收获甚微。结合本校主要专业所撰写的几篇文章，今年将刊登在一个行业期刊上。申报课题也不甚积极，开设新课也没有实际的行动，更没有参加任何学术会议。至于更高的目标，似乎只能想想而已。

翻译生产过程的研究

摘要：翻译研究的诊断式描述方法和有声思维的实证方法，都是为了尽可能揭示翻译过程这个黑箱，但这二者的局限性也很明显，它们关注的翻译过程未能真实地反映翻译现实。把翻译过程理解为翻译生产过程，并把它提升到主导地位，采取族群观察法深入翻译职场，也许能更好地反映现实中的翻译生产过程。

Eugene Nida dies

Dr Eugene Nida, a giant and pioneer of Bible translation in the last century, died yesterday, aged 96. Of Dr Nida, our Executive Director Eddie Arthur, shared these thoughts:

“Though the average Christian may not have heard the name Eugene Nida, he is undoubtedly one of the most influential Christians of the last century. His legacy is found in hundreds, if not thousands, of Bible translations in minority languages around the world.”

A personal memory

Known worldwide as an early pioneer of the nascent discipline of Translation Studies, our friend and colleague, Professor Newmark, has died aged 95 in his home town of Guildford. ‘Passions’ and ‘commitments’ are a common and often weakened currency in the language of the 21st century. Not so for Peter. He was truly passionate about and committed to the learning and teaching of modern languages, was vehemently opposed to restrictive changes in government policy, and dedicated his time, expertise and energies to his beloved Institute of Linguists.
