Graduated with a MeBA Translog from University of Lyon 2, France, I have been working in the transportation & logistics (translog) field for nearly five years. Thanks to these experience in serveral international companies, I have had a better understanding on some translog conceptions, and,often a critical viewpoint to the application of these conceptions on the real work. Meanwhile, it is interesting to discover different people working attitude and their ways of cooperation with the intercultural integration.

 

Things are always changing fast, especially within the translog industry which is facing a rude competition. To strive for good peformance is the central task for every company who would like to take and maintain a market share. Thus performance management is critical. Of cause, there's no generic model on management.

           Global Top 10 Container Lines (updated on 2009)

According to ASX Alphaliner, the world's Top 100 shipping lines' fleet now comprises almost 6,000 active vessels, including almost 5,000 fully cellular ships. The global fleet has a capacity of 13,516,566 TEU and 180,433,566 TDW. ASX Alphaliner lists the world's Top 10 container lines as follows:

 

1.  AP Moller-Maersk

  • 15% market share
  • Total capacity 2,028,836 TEU
  • 540 vessels: 212 owned, 328 chartered
  • 67 ships on order

2.  Mediterranean Shipping Co

  • 11.2% market share
  • Total capacity 1,508,637 TEU
  • 406 vessels: 210 owned, 196 c

The Quebec Ministry of Transport will implement the annual spring thaw weight restrictions in March 2009.

Effective March 1, 2009 Canadian Pacific will not accept/ingate any overweight containers. Shipment weights must be reduced and evenly distributed in the unit in order to avoid possible charges and fines associated with overweight loads. Maersk General Rate Increase in The Transatlantic Trade

As a result of the market instability in the transatlantic trade, Maersk Line is announced the following general rate increase, effective 1 April 2009. The filed increases are as follows between Northern Europe and the East Coast and Gulf Coast of North America: USD 160 per 20' dry container and USD 220 per 40' container/high cube/45' container/reefer. 

The filed increases are as follows between Northern Europe and the West Coast of North America: USD 200 per 20' dry container and USD 300 per 40' container/high cube/45' container/reefer. The increases apply equally to all Eastbound and Westbound cargo moving between the US & Canada and Northern Europe.
