Today, we visited the earthquake museum in BeiChuan. The earthquake was a scale 8 earthquake, with almost 80,000 casualties. Walking in, we were greeted with beautifully crafted statues conveying the most devastating emotions of the horrific event. The remains of crushed up cars and clocks all displaying the same time -14:48- were truly gut wrenching. I'll admit, I almost cried. The walls showed pictures of the despair the victims faced, combined with the destruction the earthquake left. We saw statues and real items. However, soon after, the emotional roller coaster completely melted into obvious socialist propaganda. Though it was interesting, seeing the people band together to rescue the wounded, that too, soon melted into socialist propaganda. Playing pirates of the Caribbean in the background as they talked about how fast the response was, how much the government helped out, and how 'happy' the people are now. The heavy heavy emphasis on all the government did to help ou

just kidding.

This entire experience has been extremely rewarding in the same way that Jessica had predicted in the beginning. However, I didn't expect it to be so much fun. I really got a chance to see things from their perspective and get a sense of the environment these children were brought up in. This environment must have been spectacular, for it has produced outstanding results. These kids have been a joy to teach; I remember when, on the first day, students started taking notes right as we began writing on the board. Not many elementary students are that studious in America. You guys have provided such amusement to us, as temporary teachers and as permanent friends. I finally found my QQ number so I'll definitely try to add everyone who gave me theirs! Maybe one day some of you may grow up and visit us overseas. This encounter has been an educational opportuni

Today was my second day in ChengDu, and my group's destination today is a school for disabled children. At first I was anxious about this volunteer activity, not sure about whether I can successfully work with the disabled children. When I walked into the classroom, I saw kids ranging from the age of three to nine. There were toys and equipments lying on the ground, all well organized and nicely kept. Still, I was unsure of what's going to happen.

I worked in the parents-allowed playground classroom most of the time. There were kids with brain paralysis, down syndrome, and autism. Depending on their conditions, they had different activities to do that were well suited for them. At first sight, I was overwhelmed by all the activities that were going on. But eventually, after observing for a while, I was able to catch on with the situation and learn what each kid needed help with and correctly supervise them.

This opportunity to volunteer in a

June 25th could've been considered the mirror image of June 24th--had it not been under different circumstances.

1) Reach the bus: Been there, done that!

2) Cross the streets and make it to the autism center: as veterans, we accomplished that in minimum time, maximum efficiency, coolly striding across all while nonchalantly talking in English.

3) Hang out with the autistic kids: This is

'Add oil!' is a saying the volunteers of China Way found themselves hollering until their throats ached as they cheered on children at the autism center.

Today marked June 24th to the anticipating calendar and the 1st day of setting foot into the bustling city of Szechuan teeming with diverse characters. Today, we were Pioneers exploring the nuances of an unique culture and the humans of Szechuan.

Our schedule began with rarely-ever-seen routines such as boarding a public bus and traversing chaotic streets. Although we experienced little mishaps such as losing our way after 15 minutes, we were able to spend more time marveling--or in multiple cases, ranting-about the spirit o

Day 7

Nearing the end of our stay at Neusoft University, today was the last day of teaching the children at the elementary school. Tomorrow will be the closing ceremony, where both the children and English teachers will perform for over 1000 people in total. The whole period of teaching English at the local elementary school has been a great experience. I'm sure that the children have learned a lot about American culture, as we have learned a lot about teaching and Chinese culture as well. Although I am a little sad about volunteer camp almost being over, I am also excited to see the performances of the students. Afte

Day 6

Today being the 6th day of the volunteering program, we are almost
done with more than halfway of the total 10 days. We went to the
elementary school prepared with new topics to teach the children.
They learned about the 50 states in the United States of America
and what makes each of the 50 states unique. We also taught them
about the different months and how to say their own birthdays.
After, we taught them how to play another American game
