A Festival of the Dead is held once a year in Japan. This is a cheerful occasion, for on this day, the dead said to return to their homes and thy are welcomed by the living .As they are expected to be hungry after their long journey, food is laid out for them. Specially-made lanterns are hung outside each house to help the dead to find their way. All night long, people dance and sing. In the early morning, food that had been laid out for the dead is thrown into a river or into the sea as it is considered unlucky for anyone to eat it. On towns that are near the sea, the tiny lanterns that had been hung in the streets the night before, are placed into the water when the festival is over. Thousands of lanterns slowly drift out to the sea guiding the dead on their return journey to the other world. This is a moving spectacle, for crowds of people stand on the shore watching the lanterns drifting away until they can be seen no more.

When the Ambassador of Escalopia returned home for lunch, his wife got a shock. He looked pale and his clothes were in a frightful state.
“Good heavens!” exclaimed his wife。“And where were you at the time?”
“I was in my office as usual,” answered the Ambassador. “The fire broke out in basement. I went down immediately, of course, and that fool, Horst, aimed a fire extinguisher at me. He thought I was on fire. I must definitely get fellow posted.”
The Ambassador’s wife went on asking questions, when she suddenly noticed a big hole in her husband’s hat.
“And how can you explain that?” she asked.

The Little Match-Girl
It was dreadfully cold, it was snowing fast, and almost dark; the evening----the last evening of the old year was drawing in. But, cold and dark as it was, a poor little girl, with bare head and feet, was still wandering about the streets. When she left her home she had slippers on, but they were much too large for her; indeed, properly, they belonged to her mother, and had dropped off her feet whilst1 she was running very fast across the road, to get out of the way of two carriages. One of the slippers was not to be found, the other had been snatched up by a little boy, who ran off with it thinking it might serve him as a doll's cradle.

Why do beautiful women date ugly men? Looking around at any particular time in any particular place, it is easy to find a stunning bombshell hanging off the arm of a beauty-challenged gentleman. Have you ever wondered why?

为什么美女会与丑男约会?随时随地环顾一下四周,都不难发现有某位惊艳美女正挽着一名长相抱歉的男士的手臂。你可曾想过缘何如此?
While it seems easy to write off a majority of these relationships using the usual China stereotypes - gorgeous Asian woman with U.F.O. (ugly, fat, old) foreign passport holder, or pleather man-bag carrying nouveau riche Chinese businessman - this is not always the case.
虽然似乎可以简单地套用中国常见的那种分类法为这类恋情笼
