IGARSS2016 <wbr>Summer <wbr>School <wbr>with <wbr>InSAR/PolSAR <wbr>Processing <wbr>and <wbr>Applications

The IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society 2016 Summer School with InSAR/PolSAR Processing and Applications session will be held on July 8-9, 2016, in Peking University. This university has held successfully a Summer School on Quantitative Remote Sensing and its Frontiers for 12 years from 2004 to 2015, and this year’s summer school will be together with the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society 2016 Summer School with InSAR/PolSAR Processing and Applications session, on the occasion of the IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium 2016, or IGARSS 2016 – "Advancing the understanding of our living planet", which will be held the following week (July 10-15) in Beijing.

Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) with imaging capability under all-weather condition and independence with sun illumination has been widely used to mapping land use and land cover, retrieving geophysical and biophysical parameters, survey ground deformation and so on. In the past decades, Inteferometric and Polarimetric SAR is the most active advanced remote sensing technology. Interferometric SAR (InSAR) is a powerful way to use phase difference information to measure height in high accuracy and small ground deformation in millimeters accuracy. Polarimetric SAR enable to use polarimetric information backscattered radar echoes to classify and retrieve geophysical and biophysical parameters in higher accuracy.

This InSAR/PolSAR summer school under Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society Summer School will offer to the attendees an opportunity to understand sophisticated information extraction methods, the use and analysis of SAR satellite images and products, and the practice of software in PC. The focus will be on Masters, PhD students and early scientists dealing with remote sensing and geosciences topics. The summer school is a contribution by the GRSS towards human capital development internationally, with a further objective of attracting the next generation of practitioners – today’s students - to become aware of GRSS and its benefits.
