Mexico's ridiculously high prices -- mechatronic digest 2017-09-28
Mexico is deeply divided between rich and poor, with 43 percent of the population living in poverty. This is the third largest city in the world with a population of 20 million, something like my hometown liuzhou. Southern tropical style. The streets were a bit cluttered. Stalls are everywhere. I was brave enough to eat food from several stalls. Delicious!
This big city, like New York, is polarised between rich and poor. There are many poor areas. POLANCO, a wealthy neighborhood, is much prettier than Manhattan's upper midtown.
Prices in Mexico are ridiculously high. Let's say a doll costs 100 pesos. Roughly speaking, it's like multiplying the price of the same American product by 10. The dollar is now more than ten to the peso, in some places more than eleven. For americans, some goods aren't cheap in U.S. dollars. I saw in the store a three-piece sofa set that wasn't leather, 5,000 pesos. Bathroom toilets, ranging from 450 pesos to 1,000 pesos. Pizza whole 190 pesos. Snacks generally start at 10 pesos. For example, a sesame fire in Beijing sells for 10 yuan each, are you too expensive? Speaking of getting out, it costs more than 800 pesos to travel first class from nuevo Laredo on the Texas border to Mexico City. Mexico City to Tijuana, on the California border, costs 1,696 pesos. There are only first class trains for a long journey. I asked mexicans what the average monthly income of the average employed person was, several times, between 2,000 and 3,000 pesos. This refers to the majority of non-professional employees, such as shop assistants. College professor I don't know. I don't understand how ordinary people manage their lives on such an income. Most people, however, eat and dress normally, and are eager to buy. Beggars are often seen in the streets, but most of them are native indians of Mexico. I asked the night woman at the inn later, and she counted up the whole family's income. In this way, the life of the average Mexican is probably based on family consumption, not individual consumption
