Waterloo English Language Testing Comes to You!
If you have applied to the University of
Waterloo, Faculty of Mathematics, you are required to take an
English language test. This year we are pleased to offer you our
own English language test in partnership with Conestoga College -
free of charge in China. The results of the test will be included
with your application and can be used in place of TOEFL or
IELTS.
The ELAS Language Test has five parts:
Reading (30 minutes)
You will read an article, write a short summary of what you have read, answer questions on finding the main ideas and understanding vocabulary in context
Writing (30 minutes)
You will
write a 250-300 word essay on a topic provided.
Grammar (30 minutes)
You will
be asked to identify grammar mistakes and complete sentences using
correct English grammar.
Listening (30 minutes)
You will listen to a short lecture and respond to questions about the lecture.
Speaking (15 minutes)
You will
have a face to face conversation with a language assessor who will
ask you to participate in three speaking tasks.
You will receive your results the following
day!

Testing
will occur the week of February 13-20 in Beijing, Shanghai, and
Shenzhen.

FEE: There is no fee for this test! It is a free service provided to students who have applied to the Faculty of Mathematics at the University of Waterloo.
