In the general eGroupWare configuration you define the general configurations as well as the layout and security of your eGroupWare.


The page is divided up into three sections:

  • 站点配置

    Site Configuration
    • Would you like eGroupWare to check for a new version when admins login?: If this option is set to YES, each time an administrator logs in the system will verify if there is an newer version of eGroupWare. The default is set to NO.

    • Timeout for sessions in seconds: The time in seconds after which a session becomes invalid. Default: 14,400 seconds (4 hours).

    • Timeout for application session data in seconds: Shown in seconds. Default: 86,400 seconds (1 day).

    • Would you like to show each application's upgrade status?: In the selection box you can choose between 'No', only 'Administrators' or 'All users'.

    • Would you like to automatically load new langfiles (at login-time)?: If this option is set to YES, each time someone logs in the system will check if new languages are available. This option should normally be disabled and enabled only if necessary (in order to save system resources). Default is YES.
    • Should the login page include a language selectbox (useful for demo-sites)?: A language option box is useful for demo pages where new users from multiple countries log in and may select their language of choice directly.

    • How should EMail addresses for new users be constructed?: Please choose a format, e.g. firstname.lastname@domain.com, from the selection box.

  • Appearance

    • Enter the title for your site: This title will be shown on the title page of the browser, in addition to other places.

    • Enter the URL or filename (in phpgwapi/templates/default/images) of your logo: File your logo in the phpgwapi/templates/default/images directory; you only need to provide the name here, or else provide the entire URL.

    • Enter the url where your logo should link to: URL where user arrives when clicking on the upper left side of the logo.

    • Enter the title of your logo: You can provide a title of the logo which appears when you pass over the logo with the mouse, e.g. eGroupWare from...

    • Show an asterisk (*) to mark untranslated strings: As a rule, you can select ‘No’ unless you need the asterisk to flag eGroupWare texts which need to be translated.

  • Security

    • Use cookies to pass sessionid: If session IDs are saved in cookies, these do not need to be presented with the URL. If you are in a public Internet café, you should always log out in order to assure that the cookie is deleted. Default is 'Yes – more secure'.

    • Cookie path (allows multiple eGW sessions with different directories, has problemes with SiteMgr!): You can choose between 'webserver root directory (default)' – this allows multiple eGroupWare sessions with differeing directories, but may lead to problems with the SiteMgr! or 'eGroupWare directory' – then the eGroupWare directory is set as default.

    • Check IP address of all sessions: This security feature prevents sessions from being hijacked by verifying whether the session is emanating from the same IP. Does not work necessarily if the attacker is using the same network.
      Switch this off if users are regularly thrown out randomly: "Your session could not be verified".

    • Deny all users access to grant other users access to their entries : If you choose YES for this option, users will not be able to allow other users access to their own data. Access administration will be taken over by administrators. Default: NO.

    • How many days should entries stay in the access log, before they get deleted?: This option does not require any further explanation. However, you should not set the number too low since it barely affects performance and provides for additional security. Default is: '90 days'.

    • After how many unsuccessful attempts to login, an account should be blocked?: Default: '3'.

    • After how many unsuccessful attempts to login, an IP should be blocked? Default: '3'.

    • How many minutes should an account or IP be blocked?: It is sufficient to input a value of a few minutes in order to make a brute force attack ineffective. At the same time, users who have made a mistake in logging in should not have to wait too long before trying to log in again. Default: '30 minutes'.

    • Admin email addresses (comma-separated) to be notified about the blocking: Information on lockouts of IPs and user accounts will be sent to these addresses. If you leave this field blank, no notification will be forwarded.

    • Enable the xmlrpc service: Default: 'No'. For security reasons you should leave this switched off when you are not using the service.

    • Enable the soap service: Default: 'No'. For security reasons you should leave this switched off when you are not using the service.

    Every user in eGroupWare requires a user account in order to be able to log in. Rights are assigned through user accounts, such as, for example, which applications a user may utilize and what data the user may access.
  • 用户组

    User groups

    You can add user groups in eGroupWare. This allows you to manage rights for more than one user at a time. For example, you can create a group for one department. Since most employees in a single department use the same applications, you can manage the available applications for the entire group rather than for individuals. You can also assign access rights for groups, thereby allowing all members to share files among each other.
    In eGroupWare a single user can be a member in a number of different groups.

    Here you can
    edit names and display options for the installed applications or delete applications.

  • 全局分类
    Global categories help to manage data more efficiently in eGroupWare. It is possible, for example, to set up a global category for every department in a company.

    Most applications in eGroupWare support global categories thereby making it possible to display all entries in the address book within a category. This facilitates accessing requested data sets quickly without resorting to the search function. Subcategories are also supported.

    We can now broaden the previous example with departments ‘A’ and ‘B’. You create a category ‘My company - internal’ and then click on Add sub to set up a subcategory ‘Department A’. If you do this for every department, you then have the possibility of retrieving from the address book data on all employees (category ‘My company - internal’), or only data on employees of a specific department e.g. ‘department C’. 
    This works exactly the same way for all other applications. Before beginning with the installation, or directly after completing it, you should think about the global categories you need. If you already have many existing data sets and then you decide to make use of global categories, you will have to input all of the data into the categories manually.

    Creating global categories 

    After you have clicked on [Add], you will arrive at an interface where you can input the name and a parent category. If there is already a number of existing categories, it is useful to go to the previous page (where you clicked ‘Add’), then scroll through it and click on the link ‘Add sub’ in the category where you want to create a new one. 
    The name appears in the selection field to filter according to category. The description should provide more precise information on how the category is to be used.

  • Deleting global categories 
    If you delete a category, the data sets contained therein will not be deleted. However, when deleting you should pay attention to whether by deleting a category with subcategories you can also delete the subcategories. If you do not delete the subcategories, these will move up a level. If the deleted category was not a subcategory of another, then the remaining categories become first level categories and do not have a parent category. 

    但是,你应该注意到当删除一个带有子分类的分类时,也可以同时删除子分类。如果你不删除子分类,这些子分类将升级为与其父分类相同的级别 如果你删除不是另一个分类的子分类,那么剩余的分类将成为一级分类(没有父类) 。
