I felt caught in the middle.

我感到左右為難。

to feel(或to be )caught in the middle

意思是夾在中間,左右為難,處於困境(between two oppositions)

例如:

As a volunteer interpreter between Chinese and Americans, I sometimes feel caught in the middle.

擔任中美人民間的義務翻譯,有時我感到左右為難。

When parents don't get along, children are caught in the middle.

父母不能相處時,孩子處於困境。

A peace negotiator for Taiwan and China may sometimes feel caught in the middle.

為台海兩岸擔任和平使者,有時也會覺得左右為難。

Let them settle their disagreement; don't get caught in the middle.

讓他們解決他們的爭議;不要被夾中間。

也可指一般意義:

When you operate this machine, don't get your hand caught in the middle.

當你操作這部機器時,不可把手卡在中間 

Some people live high on the hog.

有些人生活非常奢侈。

to live high on the hog本指有錢人只吃豬的上部肉。

也就是闊綽地或奢侈地生活(to live luxuriously)

例如:

To show their love, many rich Chinese parents send their children to the U.S. to live high on the hog.

許多有錢的中國父母,為了表現對兒女的愛,把兒女送到美國,過著闊綽的生活。

With an expensive car and a beautiful house, Mr. Chen is living high on the hog.

陳先生開著昂貴的汽車,住了漂亮的房子,過著奢侈的生活。

(hog本指長足的食用豬)

Unfortunately, the corrupt Chinese officials and businessmen brought their fortunes into the U.S., living high on the hog.

不幸,那些腐敗的中國官商帶著大筆金錢來到美國,享受闊綽的生活。

Instead of living high on the hog, I always prefer simplicity and frugality in my life.

我一生不求奢侈,只想過著簡單節儉的生活。

Don't look a gift horse in the mouth.

不可對禮物有所埋怨。

to look a gift horse in the mouth

本指對贈予的馬,要先看馬的牙齒,鑑定馬的年齡,俾能估價馬的價值。也就是對禮物吹毛求疵,有所埋怨或批評(complain about the value of a gift)

例如:

When we get something from our friends, we should not look a gift horse in the mouth.

從朋友那裡得到任何東西,都不該對那東西有所批評。

I accept things with gratitude; never look a gift horse in the mouth.

我都以感恩的心接受禮物,從不對禮物有所埋怨。

Looking a gift horse in the mouth is discourteous; because it is the thought that matters.(或counts)

埋怨或批評禮物是不禮貌的;因為禮物是代表一種心意。

To look a gift horse in the mouth may indicate a person's poor character.

批評禮物,也能顯示一個人的不良品格。

She laughed up her sleeve when he tripped over a stone.

他被一塊石頭拌倒時,她暗中偷笑。

to laugh up one's sleeve本指躲在寬大的袖子裡暗笑;也就是因為某事,引人暗暗自娛。(to be amused secretly by something)

例如:

The boy's bashfulness made his girl friend laugh up her sleeve when they first met.

他們第一次見面時,男孩的羞怯使他的女友暗暗偷笑。

The speaker's nervousness has caused some in the audience to laugh up their sleeves.

演講者的緊張,使在場一些聽眾暗暗偷笑。

Laughing up to your sleeve might cause someone to feel embarrassed.

暗笑自娛,可能會讓別人感到尷尬。

After having laughed up his sleeve about her clumsy act, he apologized to her.

他暗暗嘲笑她的笨拙動作後,向她道歉。
