Fully-Funded Professional Development Programs at Columbia University’s Teachers College
Teachers College at Columbia University offers fully-funded professional development opportunities for all levels of teachers and administrators at independent and international schools through the Klingenstein Center for Independent School Leadership.
The Heads of Schools program brings together 20 lead administrators and head masters from independent and international schools for an intensive two-week educational leadership program offered in both winter and summer sessions. Today’s school leaders are challenged by complex economic, social and political environments, and the Heads of Schools program examines educational issues and policies and the varied roles of school heads in a classroom of peers who confront similar challenges. The program provides an opportunity for school heads and lead administrators to expand their networks and to establish professional relationships while being replenished as educational leaders.
The Summer Institute for Early Career Teachers gathers 75 teachers from around the world who have recently passed two years of experience as lead teachers to develop their leadership skills for the classroom through a two-week immersive learning experience. The curriculum includes general sessions of interest to all educators, small discussion groups to more deeply engage daily classroom topics, and curriculum groups formed around grade levels and areas of teaching.
