Expressing <wbr>Feelings

“How are you feeling?”“How are you doing?”“How are you?”

In the U.S., it seems that people love to know how you feel, just like in China people are direly concerned about whether you had your meal yet. Since most of us do not want to bother others with how we really feel, the textbook answer is always "Good" or "Great," even when you may happen to have an awful day.

Besides daily encounters, we may be asked to describe how we feel in writings tasks or you simply want to record your mood as something for your latter self to relish. So, how can we express our feelings in English besides using simple and generic words like "sad," "happy," or"depressed"?

Here is a chart you can refer to:

Each of words on the outer layer has their own story to tell, and you could check them out in a dictionary in order to master them. Here I will show you an example:

Apathetic
Longer English words tend to have origin in Latin, and this one is no exception. It is originated in the Latin word "patheticus" meaning producing an effect upon the emotions. With a negative prefix "a," the word apathetic means insensible to suffering or emotion generally; unemotional; indifferent to what is calculated to move the feelings or excite attention.

For a generation alternatively described as apathetic and disengaged, that is surely citizenship in action; a canvas version of the "big society"?
