Dear Parents,
I would like for the time your child is in my class to be exciting
and productive. I am writing this letter to encourage your
involvement and support. I cannot do the job without you. Frequent
communication with your child’s teacher and school is the key to
academic success. Parents are a child’s first and most important
teachers. To paraphrase a familiar saying, “one parent is worth a
thousand teachers.” Showing our children that we value learning and
education is important and will pay off in the long run as they
mature.
Sincerely,
Miss XXX.
WHAT DO WE DO IN PRESCHOOL?
- Circle time is a group gathering during which we share our ideas,
plans, and observations. Circle activities are designed to
stimulate youngsters’ thinking, enrich their social skills, and
expand their attention spans.
- Gross-motor activities give children the opportunity to use their
muscles – as well as their imaginations – as they engage in fun,
healthy exercises, such as running, jumping, and climbing.
- Fine-motor activities help improve small-muscle development and
eye-hand coordination. Some common items found in the
fine-motor/manipulative area include puzzles, beads and laces,
pegboards, crayons, and scissors.
- Art activities help youngsters creatively express their thoughts
and feelings. They help reinforce fine-motor skills and concept
development in areas such as colors, shapes, and size
relationships.
- Dramatic-play activities help children express themselves,
practice life skills, improve social skills, increase self-esteem,
build vocabulary, and solve problems. And well, dramatic play is
just plain fun!
- Music activities promote youngsters’ listening skills, creative
expression, and social skills. In music, children can explore
sound, volume, tempo, and rhythm.
- Science activities offer children many hands-on opportunities for
observation, exploration, investigation, making predictions, and
experimentation.
- Sand and water activities allow youngsters to experiment with
textures and the properties of different substances. These
activities also promote the development of other skills, such as
math, science, and language.
- Block play gives children experience with many different
concepts, such as shape and size discrimination, spatial
relationships, number skills, balance, organization, cause and
effect, and classification. Cooperative play skills, problem
solving, and creativity are also promoted in block play.
- Story time is designed to help youngsters develop an appreciation
and enjoyment of literature. Reading activities enhance children’s
vocabulary and comprehension skills, and also expand their
knowledge base.
WAYS FOR PARENTS TO HELP TEACHERS:
1. Provide healthy snacks and a healthy breakfast. A well balance
diet maximizes your child’s learning potential.
2. Create a smooth takeoff each day. Give your child a hug before
she ventures out the door and you head to work. Your child’s
self-confidence and security will help her do well both in school
and in life.
3. PRepare for a happy landing at the end of the day. Create a
predictable ritual such as 10-20 minutes listening to your child
talk about his/her day.
4. Maintain a schedule that allow them to go to school rested, and
if they are sick, have a system in place so they are able to stay
home.
5. Fill your child’s life with a love for learning by showing
him/her your own curiosity, respecting his/her questions, and
encouraging his/her efforts.
6. Be a partner with your child’s teacher. When you need to speak
to him or her in reference to a specific issue with your child, do
it privately, not in front of your child. Make a point never to
criticize your child’s teacher in front of your child.
7. Always read the material that is sent home. It will help you
keep up on what your child is learning.
TRANSITION
变化
During the first few weeks of school, don’t worry if your
child:
- Is shy and clings to you
- Is aggressive and won’t share
- Hits and refuses to take turns
- Tires easily and cries a great deal
- Resists using the school bathroom, has accidents
- Doesn’t talk much about what happened at school
These are all signs of tension and stress in a new situation, and
will disappear as your child becomes used to the teachers, other
children and the classroom routines.
CLOTHING

- Please send in an extra set of weather appropriate clothes for
your child
Be sure that your child’s clothing:
- Is comfortable, washable, and allow for self-dressing
- Is marked with child’s name
- Is appropriate for arts and crafts (we will often be playing with
materials such as paint, sand, pudding and water)
- Children must wear gym shoes or other closed toe shoes. Please do
not allow your child to wear sandals or flip flops (for safety
reasons)
