 Issue Abstract

    Journal of Chinese Architecture History, a journal run by the School of Architecture, Tsing-hua University, is committed to collecting and publishing research papers written by Chinese and foreign authors on the history of Chinese architecture.This issue collects 18 articles, encompa-ssing five sections,namely,Study of Buddhist Architecture,Study of Architectural Culture,Ancient Architectural Systems,Study of Urban Architecture,Gardens and Vernacular Buildings,and English Papers.In particular,the An Overview of Buddhist Temple and Architecture in Tang and Sui Dynas-ties,combining historical documents and records, systematically analyzes the constrution profile, plan,layout and architectural types of Buddhist temples during the Sui and Tang dynasties.A preli-minary Study on the Architectural Form and Historical Influence of the GuanZhong Precept Altar by Daoxuan in the Tang Dynasty,A Study on the Layout of Twin Pagodas in the Chinese Buddhist Temples from the Northern and Southern Dynasties to the Sui and Tang Dynasties,and the My Views on Chahua Tower of Chong'an Temple in Lingchuan review and analyze the structure of Buddhist Architecture; Articles about research results in architectural culture include Comparative Type and Function of Roof Tiles in Qin China and Greco-Roman World in the Late Bronze Age,Wooden Buddhist Temples in Karakorum during the Post-Mongol Era,On the Teaching Methods of Architectural History under the Concept of Architectural Culture,and Expatiate on the relationship between the Chinese tradition-al architectural pattern and the divinatory symbols of I Ching and The use of the grid system and diagonal lines in the depiction of Lou architectural paintings in Chinese murals in the Jin and Yuan dynasties;Preliminary Investigation into the Dimensional Design of the Timber Structure of the Mid-Hall of Chongming Temple in Gaoping Country and Analysis of Qi Bracket Sets on the Ying-zaofashi study the ancient architectural systems;Articles concerning studies on urban architec-ture,gardens and vernacular buildings include History&Development and Cultural Value of Zhongdu of the Jin Dynasty,Study on Record of Two Gardens of Ming Dynasty,Residential Houses in Guoyu Village-High Eaves and Large Rafters,A research on the constructive movement of city-wall in Nan-zhili Prefecture in Ming Dynasty.Most of the articles show research results obtained by authors with the support of National Natural Science Foundation of China.The three in "English Papers" section introduce the newest results achieved by scholars in their overseas studies of Chinese architectural history to domestic colleagues in the field.

    The papers collected in the journal sum up the latest findings of the studies conducted by the authors,who voice their insightful personal ideas.Though they may not tally completely with the editors' opinion,they have invariably been conceived by the authors over years of hard work. With their respective original ideas,they will naturally kindle the interest of other researchers on architectural history.This journal strives to assess all contributions with the academic yard-stick.Every contributor with a view will be treated fairly so that researchers may have opportu-nities to express views with our journal as the medium.

    Most articles collected in this issue are from High-level Forum on Chinese Architectural His-tory co-organized by the Tsinghua University and overseas scholars.On October 27 and 28,2012, a dozen of famous scholars engaged in research on Chinese architectural history from at home and abroad gathered in School of Architecture,University of Melbourne,published their latest research results and shared their new understa-nding in this regard.During the Forum,every scholar had enough time to release his/her result and discuss it with others so as to promote crossfertili-zation.Papers submitted to the forum were mostly the lastest results in the field from home and abroad.Such high-level academic forum will also be organized in different regions at home and abroad.The Journal will keep following it,collect and publish related high-level papers so as to provide a platform for academic communication at the forefront of the research on Chinese archi-tectural history.
