The 122-foot replica of a schooner used in the War of 1812 is scheduled to sail through Lake Worth Inlet with cannons blasting Saturday afternoon.

Do not be alarmed. No cannonballs will be loaded in the smooth- bore cannons as the Privateer Lynx makes its "assault" on Peanut Island around 3 p.m.

"We're going to exchange cannon fire with the Bounty," said Jeffrey Woods, executive director of the nonprofit Lynx Educational Foundation.

The floating history exhibit is scheduled to be moored at the Palm Beach Maritime Museum docks on Peanut Island through March alongside the replica Replica Glashutte Watches of the HMS Bounty.

"The Lynx is really set up as a teacher of history," said John Grant, chairman of the maritime museum.

Billed as a living history museum, the Lynx will be staffed with crew in period dress who operate the ship in keeping with practices of the early 19th century. (The replica ship is fitted with a 290- horsepower diesel engine to aid in moving it to and from its berth.)

Designed by naval architect Melbourne Smith, the replica schooner was launched in 2001 and used to train the cast for the movie Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

The Lynx recently arrived in Florida from California and Hawaii for a five-year stay on the East Coast. The ship is scheduled to participate in the Great Lakes Tall Ships Challenge Series this summer and later in the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812.
